Box Score (NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.) - The fourth-seeded Thomas More College softball team defeated second-seeded Geneva College, 8-0, in six innings today (Thursday, May 2, 2013) in the winners' bracket finals of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament at the Westminster Softball Facility in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania.
With the win, the Saints improve to 23-17 and advance to the championship game of the tournament tomorrow at 3 p.m. They will play the winner of the losers' bracket final game, which is at 1 p.m. tomorrow.
Thomas More scored three runs in the first, three in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the sixth, while junior pitcher Ronni Burns (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) shutout the Golden Tornadoes for the, 8-0, six inning win.
Burns threw a two-hitter, while striking out four in six innings pitched.
Freshman right fielder Mamee Salzer (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) led the team at the plate as she was two-for-four with three runs batted-in. Four other Saints had multiple hits in the game as junior center fielder Ashley Fletcher (Lebanon, Ohio/Springboro) was two-for-three with a RBI and three runs scored, junior third baseman Alex Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) was two-for-three with two runs scored, junior first baseman Stefaney Turner (Carlisle, Ohio/Franklin) was two-for-four with a RBI and a run scored and sophomore left fielder Catie Luck (Maineville, Ky./Little Miami) was two-for-three with a run scored.
The Saints will be playing for their fourth PAC Championship title since joining the PAC during the 2005-06 academic year and their first since the 2010 season.
