Box Score 2 (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College softball team dropped both games of a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with Geneva College today (Thursday, April 25, 2013) at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. Geneva won game one, 1-0, and the nightcap, 5-2.
With the two wins, the Golden Tornadoes improve to 18-14 overall and 12-4 in the PAC and the Saints fall to 19-17 and 10-6 in the PAC.
In the first game, Geneva plated the lone run of the game in the top of the seventh inning for the 1-0 victory.
Junior pitcher Ronni Burns (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) suffered the loss in the circle as she pitched all seven innings and gave up one run (earned) on two hits and striking out 12.
At the plate, sophomore second baseman Hannah Curtis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain), freshman shortstop Ana Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) and junior first baseman Stefaney Turner (Carlisle, Ohio/Franklin) each had a hit.
In the nightcap, Geneva took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a pair of run, then the Saints tied the game in the top of the second with two runs, but the Golden Tornadoes scored three in the bottom of the second and held Thomas More scoreless over the final five innings for the 5-2 victory.
Junior center fielder Ashley Fletcher (Lebanon, Ohio/Springboro) led the team at the plate as she was three-for-four, while freshman right fielder Haley Shuemake (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) was two-for-three with a double and a run scored.
Freshman pitcher Mamee Salzer (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) suffered the loss on the mound as she pitched two innings and gave up five runs (three earned) on four hits and struck out one. Burns pitched four scoreless innings of relief and gave up only two hits, while striking out four.
The Saints close out the regular season on Saturday (April 27) when they travel to Greenville, Pennsylvania for a PAC doubleheader with Thiel College. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
