Box Score 2 (LATROBE, Pa.) - The Thomas More College softball team swept a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with Saint Vincent College today (Sunday, April 21, 2013) at the Saint Vincent Softball Field in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. The Saints won game one, 3-0, and the nightcap, 8-0, in five innings.
With the sweep, the Saints improve to 19-15 overall and 10-4 in the PAC as they move into a tie for second place in the conference standings with Geneva College. The Bearcats fall to 10-14 overall and 3-11 in the PAC.
In the game one, the Saints scored two runs in the fourth and one in the sixth and shutout the Bearcats for the 3-0 victory.
Junior pitcher Ronni Burns (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) earned the win in the pitching circle as she pitched seven shutout innings and gave up only three hits, while striking out eight.
Burns also led the team at the plate as she was two-for-three with a double and three runs batted-in. Junior third baseman Alex Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) and freshman shortstop Ana Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) each had a hit.
In the nightcap, the Saints scored two runs in the first, four in the second and two in the fifth and held Saint Vincent scoreless for the 8-0 run-rule victory.
The Saints were led at the plate by Alex Walter, who was three-for-three with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored and center fielder Ashley Fletcher (Lebanon, Ohio/Springboro), who was three-for-three with a double and two runs scored.
Freshman pitcher Mamee Salzer (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) earned the win on the mound as she pitched five scoreless innings and gave up only two hits, while striking out four.
The Saints return to the diamond on Wednesday (April 24) when they host Geneva in a key PAC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
