Box Score 2 (BETHANY, W.Va.) - The Thomas More College softball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with Bethany College today (Saturday, April 13, 2013) at Bethany Field in Bethany, West Virginia. Bethany won game one, 1-0, and the Saints won the nightcap, 4-3.
With the split, the Saints are 13-15 overall and 4-4 in the PAC and the Bison are 15-11 and 6-2 in the PAC.
In game one, Bethany scored one run in the third, while holding Thomas More scoreless for the 1-0 victory.
Junior pitcher Ronni Burns (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) suffered the loss in the circle as she pitched six innings and gave up one run (earned) on three hits and struck out seven.
Junior third baseman Alex Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) led the team at the plate as she was two-for-two.
In the nightcap, Thomas More scored two runs in the first, one in the fourth, and one in the fifth and held Bethany to two runs in the first and one in the fifth for the 4-3 victory.
Freshman pitcher Mamee Salzer (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) earned the win as she pitched seven innings and gave up three runs (two earned) on six hits and struck out three.
At the plate, Walter was two-for-three with a home run, three runs batted-in and a run scored. Salzer was one-for-three with a double, a RBI and a run scored.
Thomas More returns to action tomorrow (Sunday, April 14) when it travels to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to play Chatham University. First pitch of the PAC doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
