Box Score 2 (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College softball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with Westminster College today (Friday, March 29, 2013) at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. Westminster won game one, 2-0, in 11 innings and Thomas More won the nightcap, 3-0, in eight innings.
With the split, the Saints are 10-10 overall and 1-1 in the PAC and the Titans are 5-9 overall and 1-1 in the PAC.
In the first game, Westminster scored two runs in the top of the 11th inning for the 2-0 victory.
Freshman pitcher Mamee Salzer (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) suffered the loss on the mound as she pitched 10.1 innings and gave up two runs (both unearned) on three hits and struck out seven.
At the plate, four different Saints each had a hit in the game.
In the second game, the freshman shortstop Anna Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) hit a run batted-in single and freshman designated player Haley Shuemake (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) hit a two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning for the Saints' 3-0 victory.
Alex Walter led the team at the plate as she was three-for-four with a run scored and Salzer was two-for-four.
In the circle, junior pitcher Ronni Burns (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) earned the win as she pitched all eight innings and gave up only three hits, while striking out seven.
Thomas More returns to action on Monday (April 1) when it hosts Waynesburg University in a PAC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
