Thomas More Comes From Behind to Defeat Geneva, 89-73, on the Road

(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) - The Thomas More College men's basketball team came-from-behind tonight (Wednesday, January 2, 2013) to defeat Geneva College, 89-73, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at Metheny Fieldhouse in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.

With the win, the Saints improve to 10-3 overall and 3-1 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Golden Tornadoes fall to 1-11 overall and 1-3 in the PAC.

Thomas More jumped out to an early 4-2 lead when junior point guard D'Carlo Hayes (Louisville, Ky./Male) made a lay-up with 18:25 to play in the first half.  Geneva answered with a 15-2 run to take a 17-6 lead with 14:13 to play in the half when Kenyon Jackson made a lay-up.  The Saints responded with a 10-2 capped by a three-pointer by junior point guard Spencer Berlekamp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) with 11:51 to play in the opening half to cut the lead to 19-16.  The Golden Tornadoes used an 18-8 run to extend the lead to 37-24 with 5:44 to play in the half when Jackson made a lay-up.  Thomas More closed out the half on a 9-4 run to cut the lead to 41-33 at halftime when senior shooting guard Ethan King (Maysville, Ky./Mason County) made one-of-two free-throws with two-seconds to play in the half.

The Saints opened the second half on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 41-39 with 18:24 to play in the game when junior power forward Josef Marshall (Dayton, Ohio/Trotwood Madison) made a lay-up.  Geneva answered with a 7-4 lead to increase the lead to 48-43 when Zac Rorick made a three-pointer with 15:59 to play in the game.  The Saints responded with a 45-21 run to build an 88-69 lead with 1:03 to play in the game when King made a lay-up.  Geneva closed the game on a 4-1 run, but it wasn't enough as Thomas More won the game, 89-73.

Thomas More had four players in double-figure scoring as King had 15, sophomore shooting guard Drew Mumford (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy) and junior shooting guard Cameron Clemons (Louisville, Ky./Doss) each had 13 points and Berlekamp finished with 10 points.  King led the Saints on the boards with seven rebounds, while senior point guard Ryan Hamm (Maysville, Ky./Mason County) led the team in assists with three and Hayes led the team in steals with four.

The Saints remain on the road on Saturday (January 5) when they travel to Greenville, Pennsylvania to play Thiel College at 3 p.m.
