Box Score 2 (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College softball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with Thiel College today (Saturday, April 28, 2012) in the season finale at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. The Tomcats won game one, 3-2, and the Saints won the nightcap, 6-0.
With the split, the Saints finish the season at 23-17 overall and 10-8 in the PAC and the Tomcats improve to 18-18 overall and 11-7 in the PAC and clinch a spot in next week's PAC Tournament.
In the first game, Thiel scored on in the third, one in the fifth and one in the seventh, while holding Thomas More to two runs in the fourth for the 3-2 victory.
The Saints were led at the plate by senior first baseman Brittany Wegman (West Harrison, Ind./East Central), who went two-for-three with a run scored and sophomore third baseman Alex Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon), who was two-for-three.
Sophomore Ronni Burns (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) suffered the loss in the pitching circle as she pitched seven innings and gave up three runs (all earned) on 10 hits and struck out seven.
In the second game, the Saints scored two in the first, two in the third, one in the fifth and one in the seventh and held Thiel scoreless for the 6-0 shutout win.
Burns earned the win in the circle as she pitched seven scoreless innings and allowed only one hit and struck out five.
The Saints had four players have multiple hits in the game as sophomore catcher Stefaney Turner (Franklin, Ohio/Carlisle) was three-for-four with two runs batted-in and a run scored, sophomore second baseman Morgan Pennekamp (Cleves, Ohio/Seton) was three-for-four with a double and a RBI, Walter was two-for-four with two doubles and Wegman was two-for-two with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored.
