Box Score 2 (KISSIMMEE, Fla.) - The Thomas More College softball team swept two games today (Wednesday, March 7, 2012) on the third day of the Rebel Spring Games at the Osceola County Softball Complex in Kissimmee, Florida. The Saints defeated the College of Saint Benedict in game one, 5-4, and defeated Albion College, 8-4, in game two.
With the sweep, the Saints improve to 3-3 on the season.
In the first game of the day, the Saints scored one run in the third, two in the fourth and two in the seventh, while Saint Benedict plated one in the first and three in the third.
Offensively, the Saints were led at the plate by sophomore right fielder Morgan Pennekamp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton), who was two-for-three with her first career home run and a run scored and freshman center fielder Catie Luck (Maineville, Ohio/Little Miami), who was two-for-four with two runs batted-in and a run scored. Additionally, senior third baseman Brittany Wegman (West Harrison, Ind./East Central), was one-for-four with a two-run home run.
In the pitching circle, sophomore Ronni Burns (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) earned the win as she pitched seven innings giving up four runs (all earned) on seven hits and striking out four.
In the night cap against Albion, the Saints cored two in the first, two in the third, two in the fourth and two in the sixth, while Albion scored three in the sixth and one in the seventh.
Sophomore Sara Young (Okeana, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) earned the win in the pitching circle as she pitched seven innings giving up four runs (all earned) on nine hits and striking out eight.
Thomas More was led at the plate by Wegman, who went one-for-two with a two-run home run, two runs batted-in and two runs scored and sophomore first baseman Stefaney Turner (Franklin, Ohio/Carlisle), who was two-for-three with three RBI. The Saints got more offensive help from sophomore catcher Ashley Fletcher (Lebanon, Ohio/Springboro), who was two-for-four with a run scored, Luck (who was two-for-three with three runs scored and sophomore second baseman Alex Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon), who was two-for-three with two runs scored.
The Saints compete in the fourth day of the Rebel Spring Games tomorrow when they play Husson College at 1 p.m. and Baldwin-Wallace College at 3 p.m. at the Oren Brown Park in Kissimmee, Florida.
