Box Score 2 (KISSIMMEE, Fla.) - The Thomas More College softball team split a pair of games today (Tuesday, March 6, 2012) on the second day of the Rebel Spring Games at the Fortune Road Complex in Kissimmee, Florida. The Saints defeated Beloit College, 9-1, in six innings in the first game, but fell, 5-4, to Trine University in eight innings in the nightcap.
With the split, the Saints are now 1-3 on the season.
In the first game of the day, the Saints scored five runs in the first, two in the third and two in the sixth, while Beloit plated only one run in the third.
Thomas More was led at the plate by senior left fielder Angie Sandman (Morrow, Ohio/Little Miami), who was three-for-four with a run scored and four runs batted-in and freshman designated player Jackie Raabe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills), who was three-for-four with two runs scored a run batted-in.
Sophomore Ronni Burns (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) earned the win in the pitching circle as she pitched six innings and gave up one run on four hits and striking out 10.
In the night cap against Trine, the Saints scored one in the first, one the third, two in the fourth and one in the eighth, while the Thunder plated one in the first, one in the third, two in the fourth and one in the eighth.
Offensively, Thomas More was led by sophomore designated player Stefaney Turner (Franklin, Ohio/Carlisle), who was two-for-four with two runs batted-in and sophomore third baseman Alex Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon), who was two-for-three with a run scored.
Sophomore Sara Young (Okeana, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) suffered the loss as she pitched all eight innings, giving up five runs (two earned) on 12 hits and striking out two.
The Saints return to action tomorrow as they play the College of Saint Benedict at 9 a.m. and Albion College at 11 a.m. at the Osceola County Softball Complex in Kissimmee, Florida.
