Box Score 2 (NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.) - The Thomas More College softball team dropped both games of a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader to Westminster College today (Saturday, March 31, 2012) at Westminster Field in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania. The Titans won game one, 5-2, and the nightcap, 7-5.
With the sweep, the Saints fall to 12-10 overall and 0-2 in the PAC and the Titans improve to 10-10 overall and 2-0 in the PAC.
In game one, the Titans scored five in the first and held the Saints to two runs in the seventh for the 5-2 victory.
The Saints were led at the plate by senior first baseman Brittany Wegman (West Harrison, Ind./East Central), who was two-for-three.
In the pitching circle, sophomore Sara Young (Okeana, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) suffered the loss as she pitched four innings giving up five runs (all earned) on six hits and striking out one.
In game two, Westminster scored five in the fifth and two in the seventh, while it held Thomas More to three in the third and two in the sixth for the 7-5 victory.
Young suffered the loss in the pitching circle as she pitched one inning of relief and gave up two runs (both earned) on three hits and struck out one. Sophomore Ronni Burns (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) started and pitched six innings giving up five runs (all earned) on seven hits and struck out four.
Sophomore catcher Stefaney Turner (Franklin, Ohio/Carlisle) led the Saints at the plate as she was two-for-four with a double, three runs batted-in and a run scored.
Thomas More returns to action on Monday (April 2) when it travels to Columbus, Ohio to play a non-conference doubleheader with Capital University. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Clowson Field.
