Pierani scores 7 goals as Saints fall in high scoring and rain heavy game

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY) – The Thomas More University women's lacrosse team fell to Walsh on Wednesday (April 1) evening by a score of 26-18. Both teams had to fight against multiple long lightning delays throughout the game, but the Saints fall to 1-10 overall and 0-3 against Conference opponents.
 
How they scored
  • Walsh and Thomas More traded goals in the first four minutes. The Saints goals came off the sticks of junior Anna Wells (West Chester, OH / Lakota West) and junior  Alex Nunn (Loveland, OH / Loveland).
  • Walsh then scored four in a row before sophomore Jadyn Carle (Cincinnati, OH / Mercy McAuley) connected with sophomore Elina Emmons (Fairfield, OH / Fairfield) to score at the 5:28 mark of the first quarter.
  • Anna Wells finished the first quarter with a man-up goal. The first quarter ended with the Cavaliers up 9-4.
  • The Saints had four straight goals to start the second quarter to get within a goal. Senior Meg Pierani (Lawrenceburg, IN / Mercy McAuley) and Alex Nunn each had two goals with Alex Nunn getting on man-up scenario and had an assist on one of Meg Pierani's goals.
  • Walsh had three goals before Alex Nunn connected with Anna Wells at the 8:14 mark of the second quarter for the Saints ninth goal. Meg Pierani scored at the 7:40 mark for the final Thomas More goal of the first half.
  • The teams headed to a shortened halftime before returning to the field for 20 seconds of play before lightning hit again causing over an hour and a half delay.
  • Walsh scored six more goals before Alex Nunn was able to score on a man-down situation at the 10:13 mark of the third quarter.
  • Meg Pierani scored her 150th career goal with her goal during a man-down situation at the 8:28 mark in the third quarter on a free position shot.
  • Alex Nunn scored a goal at the 7:05 mark of the third quarter.
  • To start the fourth quarter, the Saints scored four unanswered within a span of 3 three minutes. Meg Pierani scored twice with one having an assist from Anna Wells, one goal was from Elina Emmons, and one was from freshman Payton Davis (Springboro, OH / Springboro) with an assist from sophomore Lauren Ferrier (Cincinnati, OH / Mercy McAuley).
  • Meg Pierani scored the final goal for Thomas More with 5:14 remaining in the game.

  • Meg Pierani led the Saints offense with 12 shots and had 7 goals including going 4-5 on free position shots. She also had two ground balls and draw control.
  • Alex Nunn had 7 shots and five goals as she went 2-3 on free position shots. She added 2 assists, five ground balls, and 8 draw controls. Defensively, she caused two Cavalier turnovers.
  • Anna Wells had three goals and an assist as she took 12 shots including 2-4 on free position attempts. She had a team-high 9 draw controls and caused two turnovers.
  • Elina Emmons scored two goals including 1-1 on free position attempts. She added two draw controls.
  • Payton Davis scored a goal on her only shot.
  • Lauren Ferrier and Jadyn Carle each had an assist.
 
Up Next
The Saints will host Malone University on Saturday (April 4). The game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM from Republic Bank Field.
