Thomas More splits Northwood series with a Saturday doubleheader split

(MIDLAND, MI) – The Thomas More University baseball team split the series with Northwood with a split in Saturday's (March 21) doubleheader. The Saints fell in the first game 2-1 in 8 innings before winning the second game 4-2. The Saints move to 9-10 overall and 3-5 in the conference.
 

Game 1: Northwood 2 – Thomas More 1

• The Saints scored their only run of the game as junior Ty Cunningham (Fairfield, OH / Fairfield) crossed the plate on a senior Gunner Kalkhoff (Cincinnati, OH / LaSalle) sacrifice fly in the first inning.
• Northwood tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning before walking off the game in the bottom of the eighth.

Game 2: Thomas More 4 – Northwood 2

• The Saints scored early again. This time junior Matt Resing (Independence, KY / St. Henry), Gunner Kalkhoff, and freshman Jack Greers (Harrison, OH / Harrison) scored on a single up the middle by Ian Mann to put Thomas More up 3-0 in the first inning.
• Northwood scored one run in the bottom of the second inning.
• Ty Cunningham scored from second base on a junior Nolan Krekeler (Loveland, OH / Moeller) single in the top of the fifth.
• The Timberwolves scored once more in the bottom of the seventh inning but the Saints took the win to split the series.

 

Game 1:

• Ty Cunningham went 3-4 with a double and a run scored. He also had three stolen bases in the game.
• Nolan Krekeler went 1-3 with a single and had a stolen base.
• Gunner Kalkhoff had an RBI on his sacrifice fly.
• Jack Geers had two stolen bases while junior Noah McCarty (Louisville, KY / Christian Academy of Louisville) went 1-3 with a single at the plate.

Game 2:

• The Saints had 8 singles coming off the bat of eight different players.
• Ty Cunningham and Gunner Kalkhoff each had a single and reached base on a walk. Both also scored.
• Nolan Krekeler had a single and an RBI. He also stole a base.
• Jack Geers had a single, a sacrifice fly, and scored a run.

 

Game 1:

• Senior Jack Perdue (Louisville, KY / Christian Academy) pitched the first seven innings and faced 26 batters. He allowed two total runs with only one being earned, three total hits. He also struck out four and walked just two.
• Sophomore Cameron Snider (Cincinnati, OH / Elder) pitched 0.1 innings of relief allowing just one hit.

Game 2:

• Senior Garrett Taulbee (Felicity, OH / Felicity Franklin / Marietta) pitched a complete 7.0 innings game. He allowed four hits and two runs. He also struck out two of the 31 batters he faced.

 

The Saints will host the University of Cincinnati-Clermont for a mid-week game on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
