Baseball Splits Day One of Series with Northwood

(MIDLAND, Mich.)-Thomas More University's baseball team fell 7-6 in game one (10-innings) and won 9-6 in game two (10-innings). The Saints are now 8-9 overall and 2-4 in conference.

How they scored
Game one: Northwood would defeat Thomas More 7-6 in 10-innings
  • Northwood scored one run in the first and one run in the third inning (0-2).
  • In the top of the fifth inning, first year Jack Geers (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) hit a sac fly to centerfield to score junior Noah McCarty (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy of Louisville) to put the Saints within one (1-2). Junior Nolan Krekeler (Loveland, Ohio/Moeller) grounded out to the pitcher to send in first year Sean O'Donnell (Pittsburg, Pa./North Allegheny) to tie things up 2-2.
  • Senior Gunner Kalkhoff (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) doubled to left field in the top of the seventh to score Jack Geers and junior Ty Cunningham (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) to put the Saints ahead 4-2. Junior Matt Resing (Independence, Ky./St. Henry) would step up and single through the left side to send in Gunner Kalkhoff to make it a 5-2 game.
  • In the top of the eighth, Nolan Krekeler hit a sac fly to left field to score Noah McCarty to extend the saints lead to 6-2.
  • Northwood scored four runs in the eighth inning and one run in the 10th inning (6-7).
Game two: 
  • Sophomore Chad Atchley (Peach Grove, Ky./Simon Kenton) singled down the right field line to score Gunner Kalkhoff in the top of the second to make it a 1-0 game.
  • In the top of the third, Nolan Krekeler singled to right field to send in Ty Cunningham (2-0). 
  • Northwood scored two runs in the third (2-2).
  • Sean O'Donnell hit a two run home run in the top of the fourth inning to help the Saints regain the lead 4-2.
  • Northwood scored one run in the fifth (4-3).
  • In the top of the sixth, Sean O'Donnell scored on a wild pitch to extend the Saints lead to 5-3. Nolan Krekeler reached on a fielder's choice to the third baseman to send in Jack Geers to make it a 5-3 game. First year Ian Mann (Newport, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) singled to left field to score Nolan Krekeler to put the Saints up 7-3. Noah McCary would singled to the second baseman to bring in Gunner Kalkhoff (8-3). 
  • Northwood scored three runs in the sixth inning (8-6).
  • Gunner Kalkhoff doubled down the left field line to send in Nolan Krekeler in the top of the seventh inning to secure the Saints 9-6 win.

Game one:
  • Redshirt sophomore Joe Stone (Waynesville, Ohio/Waynesville) pitched 7.0 innings, allowing four runs with three earned off eight hits and struck out five.
  • Sophomore Cameron Snider (Amelia, Ohio/Bethel-Tate) pitched 1.0 innings, allowing two earned runs off two hits and struck out two.
  • Sophomore Logan Cones (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) pitched 1.1 innings, allowing one earned run off not hits.
Game two:
  • Senior Kellen Sandhas (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched 5.0 innings, allowing three earned runs off eight hits and struck out four.
  • First year Will Harrison (Nicholasville, Ky./East Jessamine) pitched 0.0 innings, allowing three earned runs off one hit.
  • Sophomore Aaron Wichmann (Burlington, Ky./Conner) pitched 2.0 innings, allowing no runs off one hit and struck out one.
