Baseball Splits with Hillsdale on Day One of Series

(FLORENCE, Ky.)-Thomas More University's baseball team split with Hillsdale on Saturday (March 14) falling 11-8 in game one (9-inning) and winning 5-3 in game two (7-inning). The Saints overall record is 7-6 and 1-1 in conference.


Game one: Thomas More fell 11-8 to Hillsdale

• Hillsdale scored one run in the top of the first inning (0-1).
• In the bottom of the first, junior Matt Resing (Independence, Ky./St. Henry) doubled to left center to score junior Ty Cunningham (Peach Grove, Ky./Simon Kenton) and junior Nolan Krekeler (Loveland, Ohio/Moeller) to give the Saints a 2-1 lead. 
• First year Jack Geers (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) singled to left fiel in the bottom of the second to send in first year Sean O'Donnell (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and first year Theodore Bosio (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern) to extend the lead to 4-1. Ty Cunningham would score on an error by the second baseman to make it a 5-1 game. First year Ian Mann (Newport, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) singled through the left side to score Jack Geers (6-1).
• Hillsdale would score three runs in the third and one run in the sixth (6-5).
• In the bottom of the sixth, sophomore Drew Barth (Ft. Thomas, Ky./Highlands) singled up the middle to score Nolan Krekeler to put the Saints up 7-5. Senior Gunner Kalkhoff (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) would score on a bases load walk to make it a 8-5 game.
• Hillsdale scored two runs in the seventh, one run in the eighth, and three runs in the ninth (8-11).

Game two: Thomas More won 5-3

• In the bottom of the first, Jack Geers scored on a bases loaded walk to put the Saints on the board 1-0.
• Hillsdale scored one run in the top of the second and one run in the third (1-2).
• Nolan Krekeler scored on a fielder's choice hit by Ian Mann in the bottom of the third to tie things up 2-2.
• In the bottom of the fourth inning, Jack Geers crushed a three run home run over the left field fence to give the Saints a 5-2 lead.
• Hillsdale scored one run in the sixth inning (5-3).

Game one:

• Jack Geers went 2-5 with two RBIs and scored one run.
• Ian Mann was 2-4 with one RBI.
• Sean O'Donnell went 1-2 with one RBI and scored one run.

Game two:

• Jack Geers was 1-4 with three RBIs, a homerun, and scored two runs.
• Gunner Kalkhoff was 1-2.

Game one:

• Redshirt sophomore Joe Stone (Waynesville, Ohio/Waynesville) pitched 5.0 innings, allowing four runs with three earned off eight hits and struck out seven.
• Sophomore Aaron Wichmann (Burlington, Ky./Conner) pitched 2.0 innings, allowing three earned runs off six hits and struck out one.
• Sophomore Cameron Snider (Amelia, Ohio/Bethel-Tate) pitched 2.0 innings, allowing four earned runs off five hits and struck out one.

Game two:

• Senior Kellen Sandhas (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched 7.0 innings, allowing three earned runs off five hits and struck out two.

The Saints return tomorrow (March 15) against Hillsdale beginning at noon in a double header.
