Thomas More and Lewis split day two of series

(FLORENCE, KY) – The Thomas More University baseball team concluded their series with Lewis on Sunday (Feb. 28) afternoon as the Saints took the first game by a score of 2-1 before the Flyers took the second game by a score of 9-6. Thomas More is now 5-3 on the season.
 
How they scored
Game 1: Thomas More 2 - Lewis 1 (7 innings)
  • It was a pitchers' duel for most of the game.
  • Thomas More scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as junior Matt Resing (Independence, KY / St. Henry) and senior Gunner Kalkhoff (Cincinnati, OH / LaSalle) both scored on a freshman Theodore Bosio (Grand Rapids, MI / Forest Hills Northern) single to right field.
  • Lewis scored in the top of the seventh but couldn't catch the Saints.
Game 2: Lewis 9 – Thomas More 6
  • Lewis scored first with a run in the first inning before extending the lead to 3-0 in the top of the second inning.
  • The Saints took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Senior Riley Poston (Lancaster, OH / Lancaster) scored from second based on sophomore Chad Atchley's ( Peach Grove, KY / Simon Kenton) single up the middle after Riley Poston hit a double to left center. Freshman Ayden Holden (Williamsburg, OH / Williamsburg) then scored on freshman Sean O'Donnell's (Pittsburgh, PA / North Allegheny / USC Lancaster) single to left center field. Chad Atchley scored as junior Ty Cunningham (Fairfield, OH / Fairfield) grounded out to second base before freshman Jack Geers' (Harrison, OH / Harrison) single to left center scored Sean O'Donnell.
  • The Flyers added two runs in the third inning before extending their lead to 6-4 in the top of the seventh.
  • Jack Geers tied the game with a two-run home run after Ty Cunningham got on base with an infield single.
  • The final runs of the game were scored by Lewis in the top of the 8th.
 

Game 1
  • Matt Resing went 2-2 at the plate with a single and a double. He also scored a run and had a stolen base.
  • Sophomore Drew Barth (Fort Thomas, KY / Highlands) had a double going 1-2 from the plate.
  • Theodore Bosio had both RBIs as he went 1-3 from the plate.
Game 2
  • Jack Geers went 3-5 from the plate with a home run and 3 RBIs.
  • Riley Poston went 1-3 with a double and a walk.
 

Game 1
  • Senior Kellan Sandhas (Cincinnati, OH / Elder) earned the win with his 5 innings of work without giving up a run and allowing just 4 hits while striking out four batters.
  • Sophomore Cameron Snider (Amelia, OH / Bethel-Tate) earned the save with his two innings of relief with two strikeouts, allowed a run and one hit.
Game 2
  • Senior Garrett Taulbee (Felicity, OH / Felicity Franklin / Marietta) started the game and went 4.1 innings.
  • Senior Ian Bierbaum (Cincinnati, OH / LaSalle), freshman Keeton Bach (Augusta, KY / Augusta), and freshman Will Harrison (Nicholasville, KY / East Jessamine) worked as a bullpen to close the game. Combined they allowed two hits and had three strikeouts.
 
Up Next
The Saints will open up Great Midwest Athletic Conference play as they host Tiffin for a three game series next weekend (March 7-8). Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled to start at noon.
