(CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY) – The Thomas More University women's basketball team is ranked 8th in the recent Division II Women's Basketball Midwest Regional rankings released Wednesday (Feb. 25). It is the Saints first year of eligibility for NCAA Division II postseason tournaments.
The Saints are 21-5 on the season, all against other Midwest Region teams, and are 13-5 against conference opponents with two games remaining in the regular season. Thomas More sits in 8th place in the ten-team ranking with Grand Valley State of the GLIAC currently sits atop the region with a record of 24-1 overall and 23-1 against other region teams. The Great Midwest Athletic Conference is also represented in the rankings by Northwood (21-5), ranked #3 and Malone (20-5), ranked #6. All three of these G-MAC teams have already secured their spot in the Great Midwest Tournament and have secured a home game in the quarterfinals on Tuesday (March 3). The eight team field and final seeding for the Tournament will be set following the conclusion of the regular season.
The winner of the G-MAC Tournament will get an automatic spot in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament that will be held March 13-14 and 16. They will join the automatic qualifier spots that will be awarded to the winners of the Great Lakes Valley Conference and the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The remaining five spots will be chosen by a committee based on the regional rankings and performances within the conference tournaments.
