(CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY) – The Thomas More University women's basketball team is under consideration in the first set Division II Women's Basketball Midwest Regional rankings released on Wednesday (Feb 18) in their first year eligible for NCAA Division II tournaments.
The Saints are 19-5 this season, all against other Midwest Region teams, and are 11-5 against conference opponents. Thomas More has four more games left, beginning with the final home game of the season against Lake Erie (5-17, 4-12 G-MAC) on Thursday (Feb 19). The Saints will then head on the road to face Tiffin (9-14, 4-12 G-MAC), Ursuline (5-19, 2-15 G-MAC), and Kentucky Wesleyan (14-9, 10-7 G-MAC).
The first rankings are in alphabetical order, as Thomas More joins a list of ten schools under consideration. The Great Midwest Athletic Conference is also represented by Ashland (14-9), Malone (18-5), and Northwood (20-5).
In the first year of eligibility for D-II postseason, the Saints will first need to compete in the Great Midwest Tournament, for which they have already clinched a spot in. The eight-team tournament will be March 3 and 7-8 at sites to be determined. The winner of the G-MAC tournament will get an automatic qualifier into the eight-team NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament that will be held March 13-14 and 16 at a site to be determined). Other automatic qualifiers will come from the winners of the Great Lakes Valley Conference and the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The other five teams are chosen as at-large entries.
The winner of the Midwest Regional Tournament will make the NCAA Division II Elite Eight which will be held in Pittsburgh, Pa. on March 24 followed by the Final Four and National Championship game on March 26 and 28, respectively.
