Saints fall in doubleheader against Illinois Springfield

(SPRINGFIELD, IL) – Thomas More University's softball team fell in both games (3-5 and 2-8) against Illinois Springfield to end their season-opening tournament. The Saints fall to 0-4 on the season.
 
How they scored
Game one:
  • The Saints scored all three of their runs in the first inning as sophomore Emma Fegan (Bargersville, IN/Roncalli) walked before senior Ashtyn Elbe's (Cincinnati, OH / Mercy McAuley) single put runners at first and second. Sophomore Haylee Palmer (Lawrenceburg, IN / Lawrenceburg) hit a home run to clear the bases.
Game two:
  • A triple to right field from Haylee Palmer scored Ashtyn Elbe, who had reached on a single up the middle in the first inning.
  • In the top of the fifth inning, sophomore Loghan Cromer (Hilliard, OH / Hilliard Bradley) was hit by a pitch, Emma Fegan walked, and Haylee Palmer singled to right field to load the bases. Freshman Alisha Fox (Cincinnati, OH / Mason) then drew a walk to score Loghan Cromer for the Saints' second run.
 

Game One: Illinois Springfield won 5-3
  • Ashtyn Elbe went 2-3 with one run, a walk and a stolen base.
  • Haylee Palmer went 1-3 with a home run, a walk, and three RBI.
Game Two: Illinois Springfield won 8-2  


Game one:
  • Junior Kylie Ropp (Bellefontaine, OH / Kenton Ridge) pitched 2.1 innings allowing five hits and four runs, all earned.
  • Alisha Fox came in for 3.2 innings of relief, striking out 3 batters and allowing one run on three hits.
Game two:
  • Junior Becca LeMay (Pickerington, OH / Bishop Hartley) pitched 2.1 innings, giving up four hits, six runs, and struck out one.
  • Freshman Kendyl Feutz (Bloomington, IN / Bloomington North) came in for 3.2 innings of relief, striking out 1 and giving up two runs.
 
Up Next
The Saints will have a doubleheader at Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky on Saturday, February 21. Game one's first pitch is scheduled for 1pm.
