Baseball Falls to Cedarville in Day One of Series

(FLORENCE, Ky.)-Thomas More University's baseball team fell to Cedarville on Thursday evening (April 24) 12-9 in game one and 1-0 in game two. The Saints overall record falls to 14-28 and 7-18 in conference.


Game one: Cedarville won 12-9

• Cedarville scored one run in the top of the first (0-1).
• In the bottom of the first, senior AJ Enginger (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) scored from a sac fly to center field hit by first year Miguel Correa Jr. (Avon, Ind./Avon) to tie things up 1-1 all. 
• Cedarville scored one run in the top of the second (1-2).
• Junior Gunner Kalkhoff (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) singled to center field to send in senior Gavin Vogelgesang (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) to tie things up once again at 2-2. Sophomore Ty Cunningham (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) singled to centerfield to score Miguel Correa Jr. to give the Saints the go ahead lead (3-2). Sophomore Matt Resing (Independence, Ky./St. Henry) stepped up and singled to center field to advance Ty Cunninghamg and Gunner Kalkhoff home to extend the Saints lead to 5-2.
• Cedarville scored three runs i the top of the fourth (5-5).
• Gunner Kalkhoff scored in the bottom of the fifth off a double to center field hit by Ty Cunningham to make it a 6-5 game.
• Cedarville scored five runs in the top of the sixth and one run in the top of the seventh (6-11).
• Gavin Vogelgesang scored in the bottom of the seventh off a single hit to right field bu Gunner Kalkhoff to put the Saints withing four (7-11). First year Drew Barth (Ft. Thomas, Ky./Highland) hit a fielder's choice to score Miguel Correa Jr. to make it a 8-11 game.  Gunner Kalkhoff stole home to put the Saints within two (9-11).
• Cedarville scored one run in the top of the eighth (9-12).

Game two: Cedarville won 1-0

• Cedarville scored one run in the top of the third (0-1).

Game one:

• Gavin Vogelgesang went 2-3 and scored two runs.
• Miguel Correa Jr. was 2-3 with a double, one RBI, and scored two runs.
• Gunner Kalkhoff went 2-5 with two RBIs and scored three runs.
• Ty Cunningham was 2-2 with three walks, one double, two RBIs, and scored one run. 

Game two:

• Gavin Vogelgesang went 1-3.
• Matt Resing was 1-2 at the plate.

Game one:

• First year Dylan Thompson (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) pitched 5.1 innings, he allowed nine runs with eight earned off 10 hits and struck out four.
• First year Jeff Levin (Cincinnati, Ohio/CHCA) pitched 3.2 innings, allowing three runs with one earned off five hits and struck out two.

Game two: 

• Senior Jackson Grimmelsman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched 7.0 innings, allowing one earned run off five hits and struck out four. 

The Saints return Saturday (April 26) for senior day against Cedarville in a double header beginning at 1:00 pm ET in Florence, KY.
