Baseball Splits With Cedarville on Senior Day

(FLORENCE, Ky.)-Thomas More University's baseball team split to Cedarville on Saturday afternoon (April 26) falling 7-2 in game one and won 6-5 in game two. The Saints record falls to 15-29 and 8-19 in conference.

How they scored
Game one: Cedarville won 7-2
  • Ceaderville scored two in the second, three in third, one in the fifth, one in the sixth, and one in the seventh (0-7).
  • In the bottom of the seventh, sophomore Tanner Gray (Williamstown, Ky./Williamstown) scored off a wild pitch to put the Saints on the board (1-7). Senior Ben Duncan (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley ) scored off a ground out to the short stop hit by Miguel Correa Jr. (Avon, Ind./Avon) (2-7).
Game two: Thomas More won 6-5
  • Cedarville scored one run in the first inning and one in the fourth (0-2).
  • In the bottom of the seventh inning, senior Gavin Vogelgesang (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) singled to left center to score first year Andrew Hess (Berea, Ky./Madison Central) and first year Chad Atchley (Peach Grove, Ky./Simon Kenton) to tie things up at 2-2. Ben Duncan scored off a single to the short stop hit by Miguel Correa Jr. to give the Saints the 3-2 lead. Junior Gunner Kalkhoff (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) doubled down the right field line to send home Gavin Vogelgesang to extend the Saints lead to 4-2.
  • Cedarville scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning (4-5).
  • Gavin Vogelgesang scored in the bottom of the ninth off a singled to right center hit by Gunner Kalkhoff to tie things back up at 5-5. Ty Cunningham hit a single to send Gunner Kalkhoff to third which then the left fielder recorder and error to send him in to win the game 6-5.

  • Gunner Kalkhoff went 2-5 with a double two RBIs, and scored one run.

  • Senior Austin Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) pitched 2.0 innings, allowing two earned runs off three hits and struck out two.
  • First year Cam Snider (Amelia, Ohio/Bethel-Tate) pitched 3.0 innings, allowing three unearned runs off three hits and struck out one.
  • Senior Jack Rutz (West Chester, Ohio/LaSalle) pitched 1.0. innings, allowing one earned run off two hits.
  • Senior George Donohoe (Villa Hills, Ky./Immaculate Conception) pitched 1.0 innings, allowing one earned run off two hits.
Game two:
  • First year Aaron Wichmann (Burlington, Ky./Conner) pitched 5.0 innings, allowing two runs with one earned off seven hits and struck out five.
  • Junior Tony Spanger (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) pitched 4.0 innings, pitched 3.1 innings, allowing two runs off two hits and struck out one.
  • Junior Garrett Taulbee (Felticity, Ohio/Felicity Franklin) pitched 0.2 innings, allowing one run off two hits.
