Softball Sweeps Lake Erie on the Road

(PAINESVILLE, Ohio)-Thomas More University's softball team defeated Lake Erie on Thursday evening (April 17) 7-3 in game one and 13-7 in game two. The Saints overall record improves to 15-23 ans 3-13 in conference.

How they scored
Game One: Thomas More won 7-3
  • In the top of the first, first year Michelle Barth (Ft. Thomas, Ky./Highlands) singled through the left side to send in junior Sophia Thomas (Cleves, Ohio/Taylor) to put the Saints up 1-0.
  • Lake Erie scored one run in the bottom of the second (1-1).
  • Sophia Thoma doubled iin the top of the fifth to score first year Emma Fegan (Bargersville, Ind./ Roncalli) and sophomore Maeve Fink (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) to help the Saints regain the lead (3-1).
  • Sophomore Adisyn Johnson (Ross, Ohio/Ross) and first year Julia Abbott (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) scored off a double to left field hit by first year Haylee Palmer (Lawrenceburg, Ind./Lawrenceburg) to extend the Saints lead to 5-1 in the top of the sixth. Sophia Thoma singled to the shortstop to score sophomore Anna Greenwell (Ft. Thomas.Ky./Highlands) and Haylee Palmer (7-1).
  • Lake Erie scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning (7-3).
Game Two: Thomas More won 13-7
  • Junior Ashtyn Elbe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) doubled down the left field line in the top of the first to send in Adisyn Johnson to put the Saints on the board (1-0). 
  • Lake Erie scored one run in the bottom of the first (1-1).
  • Haylee Palmer singled to center field to score first year Natalie Harris (Vandalia, Ohio/Vandalia Butler) to make it a 2-1 game in the top of the third. Haylee Palmer scored from a hard hit single to the shortstop hit by Sophia Thoma (3-1). 
  • In the top of the fourth, Anna Greenwell scored from a ground out hit by Ashtyn Elber to extend the Saints lead to 4-1. 
  • Lake Erie scored five in the bottom of the fourth (4-6).
  • Ashtyn Elbe singled to center field in the top of the sixth to send in Emma Fegan (5-6). Michelle Barth doubled to right center to score Adisyn Johnson to tie things up 6-6. Haylee Palmer crushed a ball over the left field fence for her first collegiate grand slam (12-6).
  • Lake Erie scored one run in the sixth inning (12-7).
  • Haylee Palmer scored off an error by the shortstop in the top of the seventh inning (13-7).

Game One: Game Two:
Game One:
  • First year Avery Gottlieb (Ross, Ohio / Oak Hills) pitched 7.0 innings, allowing three earned runs off four hits and struck out seven.
Game Two:
  • Sophomore Olivia Dumm (Williamsport, Ohio/ Westfall) pitched 3.2 innings, allowing six runs with four earned off eight hits.
  • Sophomore Becca LeMay (Pickerington, Ohio / Bishop Hartley) pitched 3.1 innings, allowing one earned run off three hits and struck out one.
