Baseball Splits Day One of Series with ODU

(FLORENCE, Ky.)-Thomas More University's baseball team split day one of their series against ODU on Thursday (April 17) by winning 10-4 in game one and falling 5-1 in game two. The Saints overall record is now 11-26 and 5-16 in conference.


Game One: Thomas More won 10-4

• In the bottom of the first, senior Gavin Vogelgesang (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) hit his second home run of the season over the left field fence to get the Saints on the board 1-0. 
• ODU scored one run in the top of the third (1-1).
• First year Miguel Correa Jr. (Avon, Ind./Avon) scored in the bottom of the fourth off a single hit through the left side by junior Gunner Kalkhoff (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) to give the Saints the go ahead lead (2-1). Sophomore Ty Cunningham (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) doubled to left field to send in Gunner Kalkhoff (3-1). Senior Derek Marinucci (Canton, Mich./Divine Child) singled to left field to score Ty Cunningham to extend the Saints lead to 4-1. Derek Marinucci scored of a single to left field hit by senior Ben Duncan (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley) to make it a 5-1 game.
• ODU scored one run in the top of the fifth (5-2).
• In the bottom of the fifth, sophomore Matt Resing (Independence, Ky./St.Henry) hit a sac fly to center field to send in Miguel Correa Jr. to put the Saints up 6-2. Gunner Kalkhoff scored from a hard hit single through the left side by Derek Marinucci (7-2). 
• Seniro AJ Enginger (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) hit his first home run of the season over the left field fence in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 8-2 game. 
• ODU scored one run in the top of the seventh (8-3).
• Ben Duncan singled to center field in the to score Ty Cunningham in the bottom of the seventh to extend the Saints lead to 9-3. AJ Enginger stepped up to the plate and singled to left field to put the Saints up 10-3.
• ODU scored one run in the top of the eighth (10-4).

Game Two:

• In the bottom of the third inning, Miguel Correa Jr. doubled down the left field line to send in AJ Enginger to get the Saints on the board 1-0.
• ODU scored one run in the top of the fourth inning to tie things up 1-1.
• ODU scored four runs in the top of the fifth (5-1).

Game One:

• Gunner Kalkhoff went 4-5 at the plate with one RBI and scored two runs.
• AJ Enginger was 2-4 with a home run, two RBIs, and scored one run.
• Gavin Vogelgesang went 2-5 with a home run, one RBI, and scored one run.
• Ty Cunningham was 2-4 with a double, one RBI, and scored two runs.
• Derek Marinucci went 2-3 with two RBIs and scored one run.
• Ben Duncan was 2-3 with two RBIs and scored one run.

Game Two:

• AJ Enginger was 2-3 and scored one run.
• Miguel Correa Jr. went 2-3 with a double and had one RBI.

Game One:

• First year Dylan Thompson (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) pitched 4.2 innings, allowing two earned runs off four hits and struck out five.
• First year Jeff Levin (Cincinnati, OH Cincinnati Hills / Christian Academy) pitched 4.1 innings, allowing two earned runs off five hits and struck out two.

Game Two:

• Senior Jackson Grimmelsman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched 5.0 innings, allowing three runs with two earned off four hits and struck out three.
• Junior Garrett Taulbee (Felicity, Ohio/Felicity Franklin) pitched 2.0 innings, allowing two runs with one earned off one hit.

The Saints return tomorrow (April 18) to close out their series against ODU in a double header beginning at 1:00 pm in Florence, KY at Thomas More Stadium.
