Softball Splits Conference Opener with Cedarville

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.)-Thomas More University's softball team split with Cedarville on Friday (March 21). The Saints fell 11-2 in five innings in game one and took game two 9-8 in 8-innings. The Saints overall record moves to 11-9 and 1-1 in conference.

How they scored
Game one: Cedarville 11-2 (5-innings)
  • Cedarville scored two runs in the first, two runs in the second, and five runs in the fifth (0-9).
  • In the bottom of the fourth inning, first year Haylee Palmer (Lawrenceburg, IN / Lawrenceburg) doubled to right field to send in first year Julia Abbott (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) and first year Avery Blinn (Mason, Ohio/Mason) (2-9).
  • Cedarville scored two runs in the top of the fifth (2-11).
Game two:
  • In the bottom of the first inning, sophomore Adisyn Johnson (Ross, Ohio/Ross) scored off a single hit by first year Natalie Harris (Vandalia, Ohio/Vandalia Butler) to center field to put the Saints on the board 1-0. First year Michelle Barth (Ft. Thomas, Ky./Highlands) doubled to center field to score Natalie Harris to make it a 2-0 game. Ashtyn Elbe doubled over the center fielders head to send in Michelle Barth and Haylee Palmer to extend the Saints lead to 4-0.
  • Cedarville scored one run in the top of the second inning and two runs in the top of the third (4-3).
  • First year Emma Fegan (Bargersville, Ind./Roncalli) tripled to the center field fence to score Haylee Palmer and Julia Abbott to put the Saints up 6-3 in the bottom of the third inning.
  • Cedarville scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning to tie things up at 6-6. 
  • Cedarville scored two runs in the top of the sixth (6-8).
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Adisyn Johnson scored off a ground out to the short stop hit by senior Emily Allphin (New Richmond, Ohio/Fairfield) to put the Saints within one (7-8).
  • Haylee Palmer smacked a ball over the center field fence to tie things up 8-8 in the bottom of the seventh inning and record her first collegiate home run.
  • Michelle Barth hit a walk off single to centerfield to secure it for the Saints in the bottom of eighth inning to score Natalie Harris (9-8).

Game one:
  • Haylee Palmer was 1-2 from the plate with a double and two RBIs.
  • Junior Ashtyn Elbe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) went 1-2.
  • Sophomore Anna Greenwell (Ft. Thomas, Ky./Highlands) went 1-2 with a double. 
Game two:
Game one:
  • Sophomore Kylie Ropp (Bellefontaine, Ohio/Kenton Ridge) pitched 3.1 innings, allowing seven runs with four earned off nine hits.
  • Sophomore Olivia Dumm (Williamsport, OH / Westfall) pitched 1.2 innings, allowing four runs with one earned off three hits and struck out one.
Game two:
  • First year Kendra Steinberg (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) pitched 3.0 innings, allowing six runs with four earned off 10 hits and struck out three.
  • Kylie Ropp pitched 5.0 innings, allowing two earned runs off four hits and struck out four.
