Softball Splits with #19 McKendree to Wrap Up the Weekend

(Evansville, IN)- Thomas More University's softball team took on the #19 ranked McKendree Bearcats in a neutral site doubleheader on Sunday (March, 2nd). Thomas More defeated the Bearcats in game one by a final score of 6 to 5 with junior Sophia Thoma (Cleves, OH / Taylor) hitting the go-ahead RBI in the top of the 7th inning. The Saints dropped game two by a final score of 6 to 0. Thomas More moves to 4-4 overall on the season.

Game 1: TMU 6-5
  • McKendree scored 2 runs in the 3rd and 2 runs in the 4th to take a 4-0 lead.
  • Sophomore Adisyn Johnson (Ross, OH / Ross) scores on a wild pitch in the 5th to get the Saints on the scoreboard.
  • Thomas More scores four more runs in the 5th to take the lead off two doubles from senior Emily Allphin (New Richmond, OH / Milford) and senior Josie Wefer (Cincinnati, OH / Oak Hills). (5-4)
  • McKendree ties the game in the 6th at 5 runs a piece.
  • Sophia Thoma hits an RBI single in the top of the 7th for the go-ahead run for the Saints.
Game 2: McKendree 6-0
  • McKendree scores 2 runs in the first to take the lead.
  • The Bearcats add one in the 4th and three more in the 7th to make it 6 to 0.

  • Emily Allphin went 1-3 with 2 RBIs, a walk, and a double in the game.
  • Josie went 1-2 with 2 RBIs a double and a walk.
  • Sophia Thoma drove home the game winning RBI.

  • First year Kendra Steinberg (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) pitched 6.1 innings. She allowed 2 earned runs on 3 hits with 2 strikeouts.
  • First year Avery Gottlieb (Ross, Ohio/Oak Hills) pitched 0.2 inning, allowing one run.
