Baseball Comes Up Short in Doubleheader with Northwood

(Florence, KY) - Thomas More's baseball team lost 6 to 4 and 10 to 6 in a double header with conference opponenent Northwood on Friday (March, 14th) afternoon. The Saints fall to an overall record of 5-8 and a G-MAC record of 0-2.

How they scored

Game 1: NU 6-4 

  • Thomas More scores the first run of the game off a Northwood balk to take the 1 to 0 lead in the first.
  • Northwood tied it up with a run in the second inning.
  • In the bottom of the third, sophomore Ty Cunningham (Fairfield, OH / Fairfield) hit a 2 RBI single to give the Saints the 3 to 1 lead.
  • Thomas More added another run in the third off a Northwood error. (4-1)
  • Northwood scored a run in the 4th and a run in the 5th to make it 4 to 3.
  • Northwood scored 3 runs in the 8th inning to take the 6 to 4 lead.
     

Game 2: NU 10-6 (7 Innings) 

  • In the bottom of the first, senior Derek Marinucci (Canton, MI / Divine Child) hit an RBI double, and junior Gunner Kalkhoff grounded out for an RBI to give the Saints a 2 to 0 lead.
  • Northwood tied it up with runs in the 2nd and 4th innings (2-2).
  • Northwood scored 6 runs in the 5th to make it 6 to 2.
  • Derek Marinucci reached base on a fielders choice in the 5th and brought home a run to make it 8 to 3.
  • Two more Northwood runs in the 6th make it 10 to 3.
  • First year Nolan McLane (Loveland, OH / Moeller) and senior Ben Duncan (Hilliard, OH / Hilliard Bradley) hit RBI singles to score two Saint runs in the bottom of the 6th.
  • Gunner Kalkhoff hit an RBI single in the 7th to make it a 10 to 6 game.

  • Sophomore Ethan Stone (Hamilton, OH / Hamilton) got the start and pitched 5.0 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 7 hits and striking out 4.
  • First year Jeff Levin (Cincinnati, OH / CHCA) pitched 2.0 innings of relief, striking out 2 and not allowing a base runner.
  • Junior Ian Bierbaum (Cincinnati, OH / LaSalle) pitched against 2 batters in the ballgame.
  • Sophomore Nolan Krekeler (Loveland, OH / Moeller) pitched 2.0 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 3 hits with a strikeout.

Game 2: 

  • Senior Austin Dennis (Cincinnati, OH / Oak Hills) pitched 4.1 innings, allowing 7 runs on 10 hits and striking out 4.
  • First year Cameron Snider (Amelia, OH / Bethel-Tate) pitched 0.2 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits.
  • Junior Cody Watkins (Liberty Township, OH / Lakota East) pitched 0.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 1 hit.
  • Senior George Donohoe (Villa Hills, KY / Immaculate Conception) pitched 1.1 innings, did not allow a hit.
