(Melbourne, FL)- The Thomas More softball team took on New Haven and Mercy on Tuesday (March, 11th) at the Space Coast Games. The Saints defeated New Haven 3 to 2 in 8 innings in game one, and beat Mercy 6 to 4 in game 2. Thomas More moves to 8-6 overall on the season.
Game 1: Saints won 3-2 (8 Innings)
- New Haven broke the scoreless game in the top of the 6th with one run.
- Senior Emma Kent (Hamilton, OH / Badin) hit a base hit in the bottom of the 7th with two outs to bring him the tying run and forcing extra innings. (1-1)
- New Haven scored in the top of the 8th to take a 2-1 lead.
- Junior Ashtyn Elbe (Cincinnati, OH / Mercy McAuley) hit an RBI single in the 8th to tie the game at 2.
- Senior Emily Allphin (New Richmond, OH / Milford) followed with an RBI single to walk it off for the Saints.
Game 2: Saints won 6-4
- In the first inning, first year Natalie Harris (Vandalia, OH / Vandalia Butler) hit an RBI double to put the Saints in front (1-0).
- First year Haylee Palmer (Lawrenceburg, IN / Lawrenceburg) hit an RBI single in the second to make it a 2-0 game.
- Also in the second, Emily Allphin cleared the bases with a 3 RBI double to make it 5 to 0.
- Emily Allphin hit an RBI single in the 4th to make it a 6 to 0 game.
- Mercy scored two runs in the bottom of the 4th to cut into the lead.
- Mercy scored a run in the 5th and a run in the 7th to make it 6 to 4.
Game 1:
- Emily Allphin went 2-4 at the plate with an RBI.
- Ashtyn Elbe went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Saints.
- Senior Josie Wefer (Cincinnati, OH / Oak Hills) recorded a double in the game with a run scored.
Game 2:
Game 1:
- Sophomore Kylie Ropp (Bellefontaine, Ohio/Kenton Ridge) pitched 8.0 innings, allowing 4 hits and 0 earned runs. She struck out 9 in the game.
Game 2:
- First year Kendra Steinberg (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) pitched 7 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 9 hits with 4 strike outs.Â
The Saints return Wednesday (March 12) against Minnesota-Crookston and Ferris State at 2:30 P.M. and 4:45 P.M. in Melbourne, FL.
