Second Half Comeback Comes Up Short as Women's Lacrosse Falls to William Jewell

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY) – The Thomas More University women's lacrosse team took on William Jewell in their season opener on Sunday (February, 9th). The Saints fell by a final score of 8 to 7, dropping to 0-1 on the season.

How they scored
  • William Jewell took an early lead with 3 straight goals to open the game. 
  • Graduate student Kendra Yurt (Jeffersontown, KY / Mercy) got the Saints on the scoreboard off an assist from sophomore Alex Nunn (Loveland, OH / Loveland). (1-3)
  • Sophomore Anna Wells (West Chester, OH / Lakota West) followed with another Saint goal off Alex Nunn's second assist. (2-3)
  • Junior Meg Pierani (Lawrenceburg, IN / Mercy McAuley) answered a William Jewell goal with one of her own off an assist from senior Gracey Robinson (Lebanon, OH / Lebanon). (3-4)
  • William Jewell added two more goals to take a halftime lead of 6 to 3.
  • William Jewell opened the second half with a goal to extend their lead to four.
  • Anna Wells found the back of the net on back to back trips for the Saints off assists from sophomore Alexis Denman (Cincinnati, OH / Mercy McAuley) and Alex Nunn to make it a 7 to 5 game.
  • Meg Pierani records her second goal of the day off an assist from Anna Wells as we head to the final quarter with the Saints trailing by 1.
  • William Jewell scores the first goal of the final quarter to make it an 8 to 6 game.
  • With 5:28 to go, Gracey Robinson scores off another Alex Nunn assist to get the game back to one goal.
 
  •  Anna Wells led the Saints in the game with 3 goals and an assist for four points. She also tallied 3 ground balls, 3 caused turnovers, and 3 draw controls.
  • Alex Nunn added 4 assists in the game to her 3 ground balls and 3 draw controls.
  • Meg Pierani tallied 2 goals for the Saints and added a caused turnover.
  • First year Jadyn Carle (Cincinnati, OH / Mercy McAuley) led the defense with four caused turnovers in the game.
  • Sophomore goalie Whitney White (Fort Bragg, NC / Louisville Male) tallied 10 saves in the contest.

 

The Saints will return to action on Sunday (Feb 16) when they host Quincy at Republic Bank Field. That match is set to start at 12:00 PM.
