(Indianapolis, IN) - The Thomas More University Softball team opened the season against University of Illinois-Springfield on Sunday (February, 23rd) afternoon. The Saints split the two game set with the Praire Stars. Thomas More took game one by a score of 4 to 3, before dropping game two 11 to 6. Thomas More is now 1-1 on the season.
Game 1:
- UIS pushed across runs in each of the first 3 innings to take a 3-0 lead.
- In the top of the 5th, first year Emma Fegan (Bargersville, IN / Roncalli) hit a 2 RBI single to center to cut the UIS lead to 1. (2-3)
- In the top of the 7th, Thomas More took their first lead of the game off the bat of senior Emily Allphin (New Richmond, OH / Milford) who hit a 2 RBI double to center. (4-3)
Game 2:
- UIS scored runs in the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead.
- Thomas More answered with two runs in the third. Fegan his an RBI single and junior Ashtyn Elbe (Cincinnati, OH / Mercy McAuley) hit an RBI single to tie the game at 2.
- Thomas More adds a run in the 4th inning to take a 3-2 lead off a UIS error.
- A five run 5th inning for UIS makes it a 7 to 3Â game.
- Senior Emma Kent (Hamilton, OH / Badin) gave the Saints a run in the 5th with an RBI single to center.
- Allphin hit a double in the 6th inning to bring home two more runs and making it a one run game.
- UIS scores 4 more runs in the 7th making it an 11 to 6 game.
Game 1:
- Emily Allphin went 3-4 at the plate with 2 RBIs and a double.
- Senior Jose Wefer (Cincinnati, OH / Oak Hills) recorded 3 hits in her 4 at-bats with a double.
- Emma Fegan made her debut for the Saints with 2 hits and 2 RBIs.
Game 2:
- Emma Fegan continued a good day at the dish with 2 hits and an RBI with a walk.
- Emily Allphin recorded a double with 2 RBIs in the game.
- Sophomore Adisyn Johnson (Ross, OH / Ross) went 2-4 at the plate and scored 2 runs.
Game 1:
- Sophomore Kylie Ropp (Bellefontaine, OH / Kenton Ridge) pitched the complete 7.0 innings for the Saints. She recorded 5 strikeouts and only 3 earned runs. She picked up the win.
Game 2:
- Sophomore Olivia Dumm (Williamsport, OH / Westfall) got the start and pitched 4.0 innings. She allowed 4 earned runs on 7 hits.
- First year Kendra Steinberg (Crown Point, IN / Crown Point) made her debut for the Saints and pitched 2.1 innings. She allowed 5 earned runs on 8 hits.
- Sophomore Becca LeMay (Pickerington, OH / Bishop Hartley) pitched 0.2 innings, allowing 0 hits and 0 runs.

The Saints return to action tomorrow in Indianapolis, IN for another double header, this time with Quincy. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
