Women's Basketball Opens the Season with Victory Over Lincoln

(OWENSBORO, KY) - The Thomas More women's basketball team opened the season against Lincoln University of Missouri on Friday (November, 14th) at the Midwest Crossover Classic. The Saints defeat Lincoln by a final score of 62 to 43. Thomas More opens the season at 1-0. 

• Redshirt sophomore Rylee Leonard (Sardinia, OH / Eastern Brown) got the Saints going with a three pointer for the first TMU points of the season off an assist from senior Sereniti Webb (Covington, KY / Simon Kenton / Midway). (3-0)
• Sereniti Webb found senior Rylee Turner (Newport, KY / Newport Central Catholic) for a layup and a quick start to open the game. (5-0)
• Buckets by Sereniti Webb and junior Morgan Hunt (Hollansburg, OH / Tri-Village) push the Thomas More lead to 7 with seven minutes to go in the opening quarter.
• A three pointer from Morgan Hunt and a driving layup by junior Laney Baker (West Harrison, IN / East Central) halts a Lincoln run and pushes the score to 14 to 7 in favor of the Saints.
• Rylee Leonard records assists on back to back possessions on buckets by junior Desiree Tandy (Danville, KY / Danville) and Rylee Turner to end the first quarter with the Saints in front 18 to 9.
• Sereniti Webb scores the first points of the second quarter for Thomas More to make it a 20 to 11 game.
• Redshirt junior Natalie Noel caps off a nine point Saint run with a three pointer to make it an 18 point TMU lead.
• A basket from Morgan Hunt and a free throw from Rylee Leonard sends the Saints into the locker room with a 32 to 14 lead.
• Thomas More shot 13-34 (38.2%) from the field, 3-11 (27.2%) from the three, and 3-8 (37.5%) from the free throw line in the first half.

• Junior Izzy Rotert knocks down a pair of free throws for the first second half Saint points to stop a Lincoln run. (34-21)
• With 5:01 to go in the third quarter, Rylee Turner makes a driving layup off a Sereniti Webb assist to give the Saints a 10 point lead.
• Izzy Rotert makes back to back buckets with one off an assist from sophomore Kendall Sterling (Seymour, IN / Seymour) to make it a 40 to 28 game.
• Rylee Leonard hits a three pointer with 58 seconds to go in the third quarter, as Thomas More holds a 45 to 34 lead after three.
• Desiree Tandy makes a layup to open the final quarter off an assist from Morgan Hunt. (47-34)
• Thomas More scores on three straight possessions off layups from Morgan Hunt, Rylee Turner and Sereniti Webb to make it a 53 to 37 Saint lead with 7:14 to play.
• With 6:38 to go, sophomore Amara Jackson scores her first points of the day with a pair of free throws to extend the Saint lead to 18.
• Morgan Hunt makes a layup off an assist from Laney Baker as Thomas More heads into the final media timeout with a 57 to 39 lead.
• With 4:25 to go Natalie Noel makes a pair of free throws to push the Saints to their largest lead of the day at 20.
• With 3:17 to go in the game, Rylee Leonard answers a Lincoln three with one of her own to make it a 62 to 42 game.
• Thomas More goes on to win the season opener by a final score of 62 to 43.
• Thomas More shot 24-65 (36.9%) from the field, 5-23 (21.7%) from three, and 9-17 (52.9%) from the free throw line for the game.

• Morgan Hunt led the Saints with 13 points in the game behind 6-11 shooting. She added 5 rebounds, 2 steals and a team high 4 blocked shots.
• Rylee Leonard played a team high 27 minutes and scored 10 points with 3 rebounds and 2 assists.
• Izzy Rotert led the Saints in rebounds with 9 to go along with 6 points and a steal.
• Sereniti Webb led the Saints in assists with 6. She also had 7 rebounds, and 8 points in the contest.
• Rylee Turner recorded 10 points in the game along with 6 rebounds.

• Thomas More returns tomorrow (November 15th) when they take on Missouri S&T in day two of the Midwest Crossover Classic in Owensboro, KY. Tip-off is set for 2:00 P.M.
