Women's Basketball Comes up Short to Kentucky Wesleyan in a Thriller

(OWENSBORO, Ky.)-Thomas More University's women's basketball team fell to Kentucky Wesleyan on Wednesday evening (January 29), 66-63. The Saints overall record falls 8-12 and 5-7 in conference.

First Half
  • Junior Rylee Turner (Newport, KY./Newport Central Catholic) made one free throw to kick off the scoring with 9:38 on the clock (1-0).
  • Junior Sereniti Webb (Covington, Ky./Simon Kenton) drove to the rim for a layup to put the Saints up 7-6 with 5:54 left to play in the quarter.
  • Junior Alaina Keeney (Wheelersburg, Ohio/Wheelersburg) made a layup for the Saints final basket of the quarter with 46 seconds on the clock to make it a 11-14 game.
  • The Saints trailed 19-11 going into the second quarter.
  • Sereniti Webb started off the second half with a layup to make it a 13-19 game with 9:46 on the clock.
  • First year Kendall Sterling (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) drained a 3-point basket with 7:21 remaining in the half (20-23).
  • Sophomore Laney Baker (West Harrison, Ohio/East Central) made a driving layup for the final basket of the half to put the Saints within three going into the locker room.

  • The Saints were 37.8% (14-27) from the field, 16.7% (2-12) from the 3-point line, and 66.7% (2-3) from the free throw line in the first half.
Second Half
  • Rylee Turner made a layup for the Saints first basket of the third quarter with 9:21 on the clock (31-34).
  • Sophomore Desiree Tandy (Danville, Ky./Danville) hit a jump shot with 6:41 remaining in the quarter to make it a one point game (38-39).
  • Senior Callie Hunt (Trenton, Ohio/Edgewood) banged in a 3-point basket for the Saints final basket of the quarter with 1:10 left on the clock to give the Saints the go ahead lead (47-46).
  • The Saints would trail 47-48 going into the final quarter.
  • Sereniti Webb made a free throw for the Saints first point of the fourth quarter with 9:24 remaining (48-51).
  • With 5:55 left to play, Rylee Turner drove to the rim for a layup to put the Saints within three (54-57).
  • Alaina Keeny hit a 3-point shot for the Saints final basket with five seconds to play to make it a one point game (63-64).
  • The Saints would fall 66-63 to the Panthers.
  • Sereniti Webb led with 10 points and had two rebounds.
  • Rylee Turner recorded six rebounds for a team high and had eight points and one assist.
  • Laney Baker tallied three assists to lead the team and had four points.
