Women's Basketball Wins at Cedarville Behind Turner's Career High

(CEDARVILLE, OH)- Thomas More University women's basketball team took on Cedarville on the road on Thursday (Feb. 1) evening. The Saints defeated Cedarville by a score of 87 to 68. Thomas More improves to an overall record of 13-7 and a Great Midwest Athletic Conference record of 9-4. 

• First year Morgan Hunt (Hollansburg, OH / Tri-Village) got the Saint started with a put back to give Thomas More the early lead (2-0).
• With 6:54 to go in the opening quarter sophomore Rylee Turner (Newport, KY / Newport Central Catholic) makes a layup and gets fouled to tie the game (5-5).
• Senior Mattison Vickers (Covington, KY / Simon Kenton) and senior Kelly Brenner (Cincinnati, OH / Roger Bacon) knock down back to back three pointer to put the Saints back in front (11-8).
• Mattison Vickers makes back to back buckets for the Saints to extend their lead to seven (15-8).
• Kelly Brenner gives the lead back to the Saints in the second quarter with her second three pointer of the game (20-18).
• Senior Alex Smith (Cincinnati, OH / Mercy McAuley) and Rylee Turner make layups to extend the Saint lead midway thru the quarter (24-20).
• Senior Rachel Martin (Cincinnati, OH / Summit Country Day) hits a three pointer at the four minute mark to push the lead to seven (27-20).
• Kelly Brenner hits back to back to back threes to push the Saints lead to double figures and capping off an 18 point run (38-20).
• A Rachel Martin jumper gives the Saints a 42 to 25 halftime lead.
• Kelly Brenner leads the Saints with 15 points in the first half, coming off five three pointers.
• Rylee Turner recorded 9 points to go with 2 blocks and 3 rebounds.
• Rachel Martin led the Saints in rebounds with 5 and assists with 6.
• Thomas More shot 16-33 (48.5%) from the field and 7-13 (53.8%) from the three point line.

• Rylee Turner got the scoring started in the second half with a layup off an assist from Rachel Martin (44-25).
• Rachel Martin and Rylee Turner make layups to extend the lead to 23 (48-25).
• With 7:32 to go in the third, Morgan Hunt knocks down a three pointer for the Saints (51-27).
• Mattison Vickers finds Alex Smith for a layup to extend the Saint lead (60-32).
• With 1:49 to go in the quarter, Kelly Brenner hits her sixth three of the game (65-42).
• In the closing minute of the quarter Brenner knocks down a jumper to make it a 67 to 44 game.
• Rylee Turner got the Saints started again in the final quarter with another layup (69-44).
• With 6:14 to go, Rylee Turner scores a bucket to extend the lead to 23 (75-52).
• Alex Smith knocks down a three pointer off an assist from Mattison Vickers (80-56).
• Mattison Vickers converts on an and-one with 3:53 to go (83-56).
• Junior Callie Hunt (Trenton, OH / Edgewood) scores on an assist from Rylee Turner (85-56).
• First year Laney Baker (West Harrison, OH / East Central) scores he first career points on a layup with 57 seconds to go (87-63).
• Thomas More wins 87 to 68.
• Thomas More shot 36-68 (52.9%) from the field and 11-27 (40.7%) from beyond the three point line.

• Rylee Turner recorded a career high 24 points to lead the Saints, along with a team high 7 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks.
• Kelly Brenner knocked down six three-pointer as she recorded 20 points in the contest.
• Rachel Martin tallied a career high 8 assists which led the team. She also had 5 rebounds and 7 points.
• Mattison Vickers scored 14 points and recorded 4 assists and 5 rebounds.
• Alex Smith finished in double figures with 13 points in the contest, along with 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
• Thomas More recorded 22 assists on 36 made field goals.

The Saints return to action on Saturday (Feb. 3) when they host Tiffin at the Connor Convocation Center. That game is scheduled to tip-off at 1:00 PM.
