(HILLSDALE, Mich)-Thomas More University women's basketball team defeated Hillsdale on Thursday evening (January 4), 65-55. The Saints overall record improves to 9-5 and 5-2 in conference.
- Senior Kelly Brenner (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) started things off for the Saints draining a 3-point basket to put the team on the board after a slow start with 7:30 on the clock (3-5).
- Senior Alex Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) drove to the rim to the layup with 4:17 left in the first quarter to make it a 9-12 game.
- Senior Mattison Vickers (Covington, Ky./Simon Kenton) made a 3-point basket for the final basket of the quarter with 30 seconds to play (14-16).
- Alex Smith made the first basket of the second quarter to tie the game up at 16-16 with 7:26 in the half.
- With 3:39 to play in the half, senior Maggie Jones (Piner, Ky./Simon Kenton) hit a 3-point shot to extend the Saints lead to 27-19.
- First year Rylee Leonard (Sardinia, Ohio/Eastern Brown) made the Saints final basket of the half with a 3-pointer to put the team up by two with 19 seconds left (30-28).
- The game would be tied 30-30 at the half.
- Alex Smith led the team with 11 points and three rebounds.
- Senior Rachel Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) led the team with two assists.
- First year Morgan Hunt (Hollansburg, Ohio/Tri-Village Local Schools) also led the Saints with three rebounds.
- The Saints were 45.8% (11-24) from the field, 40% (2-5) from the 3-point line, and 75% (6-8) from the free throw line in the first half.
- Alex Smith started things off for the Saints in the second half sinking two free throws with 8:14 on the clock (32-35).
- Maggie Jones made a 3-point shot with 6:46 to play in the quarter to tie the game up at 35-35.
- With 12 seconds left on the clock, sophomore Rylee Turner (Newport, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) made one free throw for the the points of the third quarter (44-46).
- Morgan Hunt drove to the rim for a layup to kick things off for the Saints in the final quarter with 9:32 to go (46-46).
- Alex Smith hit a 3-point basket to put the Saints up 56-46 with 5:53 to play in the game.
- Morgan Hunt would secure the win making a free throw with 29 seconds left to give the Saints a 65-55 win.
