Women's Basketball Start off the New Year with Road Win Over Hillsdale

(HILLSDALE, Mich)-Thomas More University women's basketball team defeated Hillsdale on Thursday evening (January 4), 65-55. The Saints overall record improves to 9-5 and 5-2 in conference.

First Half
  • Senior Kelly Brenner (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) started things off for the Saints draining a 3-point basket to put the team on the board after a slow start with 7:30 on the clock (3-5).
  • Senior Alex Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) drove to the rim to the layup with 4:17 left in the first quarter to make it a 9-12 game.
  • Senior Mattison Vickers (Covington, Ky./Simon Kenton) made a 3-point basket for the final basket of the quarter with 30 seconds to play (14-16).
  • Alex Smith made the first basket of the second quarter to tie the game up at 16-16 with 7:26 in the half.
  • With 3:39 to play in the half, senior Maggie Jones (Piner, Ky./Simon Kenton) hit a 3-point shot to extend the Saints lead to 27-19.

  • Alex Smith hit a 3-point basket to put the Saints up 56-46 with 5:53 to play in the game.
  • Morgan Hunt would secure the win making a free throw with 29 seconds left to give the Saints a 65-55 win.
  • Alex Smith led the team in the second half with 10 points and four rebounds and had one assist.
  • Rachel Martin recorded eight points, one rebound, and one assist.
