Saints Beaten By Hillsdale In G-MAC Action Saturday Afternoon

(HILLSDALE, MI) – The Thomas More women's volleyball team lost to the Hillsdale College Chargers Saturday afternoon, 3-0. The Saints are 1-11 overall and 0-4 in the G-MAC.

 

• The Chargers held a 16-10 advantage in set one, but a 7-2 Saints rally cut the lead to one at 18-17. The Saints were helped by several Hillsdale errors during the charge.
• Hillsdale would take control from there though, ending the set on a 7-2 rally to win 25-19 and go up 1-0.
• Thomas More exploded out to a 7-1 lead in the second set, using kills from Jess Gearries (Avon, IN / Avon) and Sydney Hilderbran (Cincinnati, OH / Lakota West) to lead the charge.
• A 10-2 Charger rally would give Hillsdale an 11-9 lead.
• The set would eventually be locked up at 22-22 after the Saints rallied back from being down 22-19.
• The Chargers would prevail 25-23 however and take a 2-0 match lead.
• Hillsdale controlled the final set, using a 9-1 run to take a 22-13 lead after leading by just one at 13-12.
• They hit .379 in the set and won 25-15 for the 3-0 match victory.

 

• Jess Gearries led Thomas More with seven kills.
• Freshman Avery Brieske (Oak Creek, WI / Oak Creek) dished out 12 assists for the Saints, while junior Asia Ferrando (Masone, Italy / Barletti Ovada) recorded 14 digs.
• The Saints had 10 block assists, with Brenna Young (Spring Hill, TN / South Oldham) leading the team with three.

 

Thomas More will be back at the Connor Convocation Center Friday night for a matchup with the Ashland University Eagles at 7:00 p.m.
