Five Saints Score Double Figures in Victory Over Kentucky Wesleyan

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY)-Thomas More University women's basketball team defeated Kentucky Wesleyan College on Saturday afternoon (Dec 30), by a score of 74 to 58. The Saints overall record improves to 8-5 on the season and a Great Midwest Athletic Conference record of 4-2. 

• Senior Maggie Jones (Piner, Ky./Simon Kenton) got the Saints started with a three pointer off an assist from senior Kelly Brenner (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) to put the Saints out front (3-0).
• Jumpers from Kelly Brenner and first year Desiree Tandy (Danville, KY / Danville) extend the Thomas More lead to seven (9-2).
• First year Rylee Leonard (Sardinia, Ohio/ Eastern Brown) connects on four consecutive free throws to put the Saints in front by eleven midway thru the opening quarter (15-4).
• Junior Callie Hunt (Trenton, OH / Edgewood) knocks down a triple off a pass from Rylee Leonard to push the Saint lead to 14 (22-8).
• Senior Rachel Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) drains a three pointer in the closing minute of the quarter to make it an 18 point lead (26-8).
• Callue Hunt drained her second three of the day to open the second quarter making it a 21 point lead (29-8).
• A Kelly Brenner three pointer pushed the Saint lead back to 20 with 5:43 to go in the half (32-12).
• After trading baskets, senior Alex Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) knocks down a three point shot to make the score 37 to 17.
• First year Morgan Hunt (Hollansburg, OH / Tri-Village Local Schools) gets a pass from Rachel Martin and drains a three to keep the lead at 20 (40-20).
• Thomas More takes a halftime lead of 47-27.
• Rylee Leonard led the Saints with 10 points in the half.
• Senior Mattison Vickers (Covington, KY / Simon Kenton) led the team in rebounds with 4.
• Thomas More shot 15-25 (60%) from the field and 7-15 (46.7%) from beyond the three point line in the half.

• Alex Smith got the Saints started in the second half with a three pointer off an assist from Kelly Brenner (50-31).
• Midway thru the quarter, Kelly Brenner knocks down a triple off an assist from Alex Smith to make it a 14 point game (53-39).
• Rylee Leonard ends a Panther run with a layup with 4:31 to go in the quarter (55-47).
• With 2:08 to go in the quarter, Alex Smith makes a driving layup to make it a 12 point game (60-48).
• Alex Smith opened the fourth quarter with a layup for the Saints (62-50).
• Maggie Jones connects on a three pointer off an assist from Morgan Hunt with 7:14 to go (67-53).
• Maggie Jones and Morgan Hunt make back to back baskets to extend the Saint lead to 18 (71-53).
• Maggie Jones drains her third three pointer of the game in the closing minute for the Saints (74-58).
• Thomas More shot 25-50 (50%) from the field and 11-26 (42.3%) from beyond the three point line.

• Maggie Jones led the Saints in scoring with 13 points, along with 2 rebounds.
• Alex Smith recorded 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists in the game.
• Rylee Leonard tallied 12 points to go with a rebound and an assist.
• Morgan Hunt scored 10 points and also had 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.
• Desiree Tandy recorded a team high 9 rebounds in the contest along with 2 points.
• Kelly Brenner tallied 10 points and a team high 3 assists.

The Saints return to action Thursday (Jan. 4) when they travel to Hillsdale, MI to face off against Hillsdale College. That game is scheduled to tip-off at 5:30 PM.
