Women's Basketball Drops to Wheeling

(WHEELING, WV)-Thomas More University women's basketball team fell to Wheeling on Tuesday evening (Nov 14), 78-72. The Saints overall record falls to 1-2.

• Sophomore Rylee Turner (Newport, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) hit two free throws to put the Saints on the board 2-0 with 8:42 on the clock.
• First year Rylee Leonard (Sardinia, Ohio/Eastern Brown) made a 3-point basket for the Saints final basket of the first quarter with 1:48 to play (15-21).
• The Saints trailed 15-27 at the end of the first quarter.
• Senior Kelly Brenner (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) kicked off the second quarter by draining a 3 pointer with 9:21 on the clock (18-27).
• Senior Mattison Vickers (Covington, Ky./Simon Kenton) made a 3-point shot to put the Saints within three with 6:11 to play in the first half.
• Senior Alex Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) made two free throws for the final points of the first half to make it a 36-39 game at the half.
• Alex Smith led with 11 points, two assists, and three steals in the first half.
• Senior Maggie Jones (Piner, Ky./Simon Kenton) and Rylee Leonard both had two assists to lead the team.
• First year Desiree Tandy (Danville, Ky./Danville) brought down seven rebounds to lead the Saints and had six points and one assist.
• The Saints were 30.3% (10-33) from the field, 30% (6-20) from the 3-point line, and 100% (10-10) from the free throw line in the first half.

• Kelly Brenner knocked in a 3-point basket to start things off in the second half to tie the game up at 39-39 with 9:50 on the clock.
• Maggie Jones made a layup on a fast break to give the Saints the lead with 4:02 to play in third quarter (51-49).
• Alex Smith hit a jump shot with 3 seconds on the clock for the final basket of the quarter to give the Saints a 58-57 lead.
• With 5:50 to play, Kelly Brenner made two free throws to put the Saints within five (60-65).
• Alex Smith made a 3-point shot with seven seconds left to put the team within four (72-76), but the Saints would come up short 78-72 to Wheeling.
• Kelly Brenner led the team with 13 points in the second half and had three rebounds and one assist.
• Maggie Jones followed with 11 points and one rebound.
• Mattison Vickers led the team defensively with four rebounds.
• Alex Smith had 10 points, three rebounds, and one assist in the second half.
• Senior Rachel Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) led the Saints with five assists.
• The Saints were 40.6% (13-32) from the field, 50% (8-16) from the 3-point line, and 66.7% (2-3) from the 3-point line.

• Alex Smith led the Saints with 21 points and had four rebounds and three assists.
• Kelly Brenner followed with 19 points, three rebounds, and two assists.
• Rachel Martin tallied six assists to lead the team and had four rebounds.
• Desiree Tandy had nine rebounds to lead to team and had eight points and one assist.
• The Saints were 35.4% (23-65) from the field, 38.9% (14-36) from the 3-point line, and 92.3% (12-13) from the free throw line. 

The Saints return to action next Wednesday (Nov 22) against Miami-Hamilton at 6:00 PM ET in the Connor Convocation Center for their home opener.
