(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The No. 1 Thomas More University women's basketball team defeated No. 3 Campbellsville University Thursday evening 78-66, in front of a large crowd inside the Connor Convocation Center. This is the fifth-ranked opponent they have defeated this season.
- The Saints jumped out to an eight-point advantage at 17-9 with 4:48 to play in the first quarter.
- First-year Rylee Turner (Newport, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) had six points during this stretch while junior Rachel Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) logged five.
- Their lead continued to grow as they knocked down six threes in the quarter and took a 28-17 lead into the second.
- The Saints held a steady lead in the second quarter, leading 39-27 with 4:23 left in the half.
- However, Thomas More wouldn't score another point in the quarter, with Campbellsville using a 7-0 run to send it to halftime with the score 39-34.
- The momentum continued to favor the Tigers in the third, as they cut the lead to just one at 41-40 with 8:15 to play.
- A Martin three and Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) layup put Thomas More back up by six at 46-40.
- The Tigers fought back with a 9-3 flurry to tie the game for the first time at 49-49 with 3:23 left in the third quarter.
- Thomas More grabbed a three-point lead heading into the final quarter, leading 56-53.
- The final quarter was all Saints as they shut the door on a Tiger comeback and outscored Campbellsville 22-13 over the final 10 minutes.
- A Kelly Brenner (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) three-pointer helped the Saints pull away and gave them a nine-point advantage at 66-57 with 6:34 to play.
- The Tigers would only cut it to six from there as Thomas More won the game 78-66.
- Thomas More now holds a 16-0 record this season and are 10-0 in the Mid-South Conference.
- Senior Emily Simon (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) earned her third double-double this season, scoring 10 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. She also led the team with five assists.
- Martin had a career-high 13 points on 5-9 shooting.
- Barth scored a team-high 14 points for the Saints.
- Thomas More made 13 threes in the game, their eighth game this season having made 10 or more three-pointers.
- They shot 50.8% from the field, their third straight contest shooting over 50% and the fourth of the season.
The Saints hit the road for a matchup on Saturday afternoon against the Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders at 2:00 p.m. ET/1:00 p.m. CT. They split a pair of games with the Blue Raiders last season.
