#1 Women's Basketball Defeat #24 Cumberlands (Ky.), 83-64

(WILLIAMSBURG, Ky.)-#1 Thomas More University women's basketball team defeated #24 Cumberlands (Ky.) on Saturday afternoon (January 21), 83-64. The Saints overall record improves to 21-0 and 15-0 in conference. 

 
  • Senior Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) kicked off the scoring for the Saints, driving the ball in for a layup to put the team on the board (2-3) with 7:22 to play in the first quarter.
  • With 4:09 on the clock, junior Kelly Brenner (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) drained a 3-point basket to give the Saints a 11-9 lead.
  • Senior Sammi Whiteman (Covington, Ky./Covington) made a jump shot for the final basket of the quarter, giving the Saints a 20-15 lead going into the second quarter.
  • Sammi Whiteman started things off for the Saints in the second quarter with a jumper to extend their lead to 22-17 with 9:39 to play in the first half.
  • Junior Alex Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) drove to the rim for a layup with 4:45 on the clock to make it a 29-24 game.
  • Kelly Brenner hit a 3-point shot for the final basket of the half with 35 seconds to play and give the Saints a 38-32 lead going into the locker room at the half.
  • Kelly Brenner led the Saints with nine points and had one rebound and one assist in the first half.
  • Zoie Barth led the team with two assists and tallied eight points and two rebounds.
  • Alex Smith also led the team with two assists and had seven points and two rebounds.
  • Senior Emily Simon (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) led the Saints defensively with four rebounds and had three points and one assist.

  • With 5:44 to play in the third quarter, Zoie Barth knocked in a 3-point basket to extend the Saints lead to 48-39.
  • Junior Maggie Jones (Piner, Ky./Simon Kenton) put in two free throws to close out the scoring for the Saints in the third quarter and give them a 60-48 lead going into the fourth quarter.
  • Emily Simon started the four quarter off, knocking in two free throws with 9:45 to play in the game (62-48).
  • Alex Smith drove to the rim for a layup to give the Saints a 72-52 lead with 5:33 to play. 
  • Junior Hailie Morgan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) made one free throw for the Saints final points of the game with 1:15 to play (83-61).
  • The Saints defeated the Patriots 83-64.
  • Zoie Barth recorded nine points and three assists to lead the Saints in the second half and had two rebounds.
  • Courtney Hurst also tallied three assists to lead the team and had six points.
  • Emily Simon led the Saints defensively with seven rebounds and has eight points.
  • Kelly Brenner had eight points and two rebounds. 
  • The Saints were 43.8% (14-32) from the field, 31.6% (6-19) from the 3-point line, and 68.8% (11-16) from the free throw line. 
  • Zoie Barth recorded 17 points and five rebounds to lead the Saints and had four rebounds.
