Box Score 2 Portsmouth, Ohio - The baseball program at Thomas More defeated the Bears of Shawnee State in both games of day two by scores of 16-3 and 8-7. With the win the Saints improve to 25-14 on the year and 12-7 in Mid-South Conference play.
Game One: Thomas More wins 16-3.
- Senior Bailey Martin (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) would get the Saints on the board early as he would put a ball in play to score Brett Benzinger (Taylor Mill, Ky./New Richmond) for a 1-0 lead.
- First-year Gavin Vogelgesang (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) would hit a double to right center to score Aiden Reverman (West Chester, Ohio / Lakota West) and Cooper Daniels (Franklin, Ohio/Franklin) to increase the lead to 3-0.
- Benzinger would add a run in the top of the second with a single to score first-year AJ Enginger (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) from third to increase the lead to 4-0.
- Sophomore Gavin Pearson (Burlington, Ky./Randall K. Cooper) singled past the first baseman to score Vogelgesang to grow the lead to 5-0.
- Junior Derek Atwood (Burlington, Ky./Conner) would single home both Pearson and Benzinger to extend the lead to 7-0.
- First-year Brady Baldock (Burlington, Ky./St. Henry) would single past the third baseman to score Martin to make the lead 8-0.
- Reverman would put the ball in play to score Atwood to score the ninth run of the game to make the score 9-0 after two innings.
- In the top of the third Martin would collect a single to score Benzinger for the second time of the game and make the score 10-0.
- Atwood would collect his second single of the game to score Martin for a lead of 11-0.
- Baldock would smack a double to left center to score Atwood from second, increasing the lead to 12-0.
- Shawnee State would score two runs in the bottom of the third via a home run to cut the lead to 12-2.
- Martin would collect his third and fourth rbi of the game in the top of the fourth by doubling to right field, scoring Benzinger and Enginger.
- Junior Jacob Caruso (Rootstown, Ohio/Rootstown) would pick up a single to center field to score Martin to increase the score to 15-2.
- The Bears would score a run in the bottom of the fourth to trim the lead to 15-3.
- In the top of the fifth Reverman would hit a solo home run to bring the final tall to 16-3 in favor of the Saints.
- Benzinger went four-for-five in the game with four runs scored and one rbi.
- Martin collected three hits in five plate appearances with four rbi's and three runs scored.
- Atwood went three-for-five with three rbi's and two runs scored.
- Caruso went a perfect three-for-three in the game with one rbi while drawing two walks.
- Enginger went three-for-four in the game with two runs scored.
- Sophomore Mychal Grogan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched five innings allowing two earned runs on three hits with five strike outs.
- Sophomore Zach Dugan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) threw two innings allowing no runs on one hit.
Game Two: Thomas More wins 8-7.
- Shawnee State jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with three runs in the bottom of the first.
- In the top of the third the Saints would get on the board as Enginger scored from third.
- In the top of the fifth Martin would hit a two-run home run to score Pearson and himself to tie the game at three all.
- Reverman would keep the rally going in the top of the fifth with a double to score Atwood to take a 4-3 lead.
- The Bears would add a run in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at four heading into the sixth.
- Thomas More would retake the lead in the top of the sixth as Pearson would single through the left side to score Vogelgesang for a 5-4 lead.
- Martin would collect his second home run of the game, this time a three run home run, scoring Benzinger and Pearson for an 8-4 lead.
- Shawnee State would make things interesting in the bottom of the ninth scoring three runs, before striking out to end the game with a final score of 8-7 in favor of Thomas More.
- Martin collected two hits in five at bats with five rbi's, two runs scored, and two home runs.
- Reverman went two-for-four at the dish with an rbi and a double.
- Vogelgesang collected two hits in four plate appearances with a run scored and would draw a walk.
- Sophomore Landen Scott (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) pitched five innings allowing four runs on six hits with six strikeouts.
- Dugan would make his second appearance on the day by pitching three innings, only allowing two hits with four strikeouts.
- Austin Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) would collect his second save of the weekend by coming in and striking out the only batter he faced.
