Baseball Fights Back Late to Sweep Series from UT Southern

(PULASKI, Tenn.)-Thomas More University baseball team defeated UT Southern 7-6 on Sunday afternoon (March 20) to sweep the series. The Saints overall record improves to 14-9 and 7-4 in conference.

• UT Southern scored one run in the bottom of the fifth, bottom of the sixth inning, and bottom of seventh inning (0-3).
• Senior Casey Nowak (Burlington, Ky./Covington Catholic) scored on a wild pitch in the top of the eight inning to put the Saints on the board (1-3). Sophomore Brady Baldock (Burlington, Ky./St. Henry) would step up to the plate and single to right field to send in junior Noah Weingartner (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle) and senior Bailey Martin (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) to tie the game up at 3-3. First year AJ Enginger (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) singled to left field to score Brady Baldock to give the saints the go ahead run (4-3) in the top of the eighth. 
• UT Southern scored three runs in the third inning (4-6).
• Junior Jacob Caruso (Rootstown, Ohio/Rootstown) singled to right field to score Bailey Martin and Gavin Pearson to tie the game up (6-6) in the top of the ninth inning. Jacob Caruso scored on a wild pitch to give the Saints the go ahead run and the lead in the bottom of the ninth (7-6).

• Casey Nowak went 2-5 and scored one run.
• Bailey Martin was 2-3 at the plate and scored two runs.

• Junior right handed pitcher Mason Berger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched five innings, giving up one earned run off four hits, and struck out one.
• Sophomore left handed pitcher Zach Dugan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched 2.0 innings, giving up one earned run off four hits, and struck out three.
• Right handed pitcher Bailey Martin pitched 1.0 inning, giving up three earned runs off two hits, and struck out three.
• Junior right handed pitcher Justin Bierbaum (Bridgetown, Ohio/La Salle) pitched 1.0 inning, giving up no runs off one hit, and struck out one.

The Saints return to the field on Tuesday (March 22) at Miami-Hamilton at 4:00 pm ET.
