Baseball Falls to UC Clermont 7-8

(CINCINNATI, Ohio)-Thomas More University's baseball team fell to UC Clermont 7-8 on Tuesday afternoon (March 15). The Saints overall record falls to 11-9.

• Senior Bailey Martin (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) doubled in the top of the first inning to score sophomore Gavin Pearson (Burlington, Ky./Cooper) (1-0).
• In the top of the second, first year Gavin Vogelgesang (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) singled for a RBI to send in senior Brett Benzinger (Taylor Mill, Ky./New Richmond) (2-0).
• UC Clermont scored one unearned run in the bottom of the third (2-1).
• Gavin Vogelgesang scored in the top of the fourth on a bases loaded walk to extend the Saints lead to (3-1). Junior Jacob Caruso (Rootstown, Ohio/Rootstown) would step up next to the plate and double to score Bailey Martin, Gavin Pearson, and senior Casey Nowak (Burlington, Ky./Covington Catholic) (6-1).
• UC Clermont scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth and one run in the fifth (6-4).
• Jacob Caruso hit a sac fly to score Casey Nowak to give the Saints the lead once again in the top of the sixth inning (7-4).
• UC Clermont would scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and two runs in the seventh (7-8).

• Casey Nowak went 2-3 and scored two runs.
• Bailey Martin was 1-2 at the plate with two RBIs, a double, and scored one run.
• Senior Aiden Reverman (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) was 2-4.
• Gavin Vogelgesang went 2-4 with one RBI and scored one run.

• Graduate Student right handed pitcher Kyle Fieger (Ft. Mitchell/Beechwood) pitched 4.0 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) off five hits and struck out two.
• Junior right handed pitcher Justin Bierbaum (Bridgetown, Ohio/La Salle) pitched 1.1 innings, giving up three earned runs off two hits and struck out two.
• First year right handed pitcher Austin Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) pitched 1.1 innings, giving up two earned runs off three hits and struck out two.

The Saints return to the field on Saturday (March 19) in Pulaski, Tenn. to face UT Southern in a MSC series starting with a double header beginning at 2:00 pm ET.
