Baseball Sweep Series Against Trinity Christian with 13-0 Win

(FLORENCE, Ky.)- Thomas More University baseball defeated Trinity Christian on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 19), 13-0. The Saints overall record improves to 6-3.

  • Senior centerfielder Casey Nowak (Hebron, Ky./Covington Catholic) started things off for the Saints hitting one over the fence to get the team on the board (1-0) in the bottom of the first inning. Senior second baseman Bailey Martin (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) would score an unearned run off a fielder's choice hit by sophomore right fielder Brady Baldock (Hebron, Ky./St. Henry) to give the Saints a 2-0 lead.
  • In the bottom of the second, junior left fielder Cooper Daniels (Frankling, Ohio/Franklin) would single to send in first year third baseman AJ Stewart (Florence, Ky./St. Henry) to extend the Saints lead to 3-0. Junior catcher Jacob Caruso (Rootstown, Ohio/Rootstown) would step up to the plate next for a RBI single to score Cooper Daniels (4-0). Casey Nowak would score off a fielder's choice hit by Brady Baldock to make it a 5-0 game. Bailey Martin would steal home in the bottom of the second for the Saints final run of the inning (6-0).
  • Sophomore first baseman Gavin Pearson (Burlington, Ky./Cooper) would hit a triple in the bottom of the third to score Cooper Daniels and Casey Nowak to give the Saints a 8-0 lead.
  • Bailey Martin would hit a sac fly to score AJ Stewart in the bottom of the fifth inning (9-0). Jacob Caruso would step up to the plate next and hit a two RBI single to send in Gavin Pearson and Cooper Daniels (11-0).
  • In the bottom of the sixth inning, AJ Stewart would single for a RBI, scoring junior pinch hitter Noah Weingartner (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle) (12-0). First year pinch hitter Zak Schlacter (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) would hit a sac fly for a RBI, sending in AJ Stewart for the Saints final run of the game (12-0).

  • Casey Nowak was 2-3 at the plate with one RBI, a homerun, and scored two runs.
  • Jacob Caruso went 3-4 at the plate with three RBIs.
  • Cooper Daniels was 3-4 at the plate with one RBI, a double, and scored three runs.
  • AJ Stewart was 2-4 with a RBI and scored three runs.
  • Gavin Pearson hit a double and went 1-2 at the plate with two RBIs and scored one run.

  • Sophomore right handed pitcher Landon Scott (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) would have a strong day on the mound. Scott pitched seven innings giving up one hit and striking out 11.

The Saints return tomorrow as the take on UC Clermont at 2:00 pm ET in a seven inning game at Florence Y'all's Stadium.
