Box Score Crestview Hills, Ky. - The baseball program at Thomas More defeated the Trinity Christian College Trolls by a score of 14-11 on Friday, February 18. With the win the Saints improve to 5-3 on the year.
- The Trolls would score early as they added three runs in the top of the first to take a 3-0 lead.
- The Saints would tally six runs in the bottom of the second as Brady Baldock, Brett Benzinger, AJ Enginger, Danny Flanigan, Gavin Vogelgesang, and Casey Nowak would all cross the plate after five singles and two errors to give Thomas More a 6-3 lead after two.
- Trinity Christian would tie the game back up in the top of the third with a couple singles and errors to make the score 6-6.
- Thomas More would once again grab the lead with a Enginger single that would drive home Benzinger to take a 7-6 lead after six innings of play.
- The Trolls would once again tie the game up this time with help of the Thomas More defense with an error that allowed Carmody to score from second.
- Baldock and Enginger would each pick up a pair of rbi's in the bottom of the seventh as Baldock's singles would drive in Bailey Martin and Gavin Pearson while Enginger's would bring home Baldock and Cooper Daniels who was courteous running for Jacob Caruso.
- Trinity Christian were resilient as they once again tied up the score in the top of the eighth by adding four runs to their total to make the score 11 all.
- The Saints would show that they were not going to lose this game as Baldock and Enginer once again would drive home runs as Baldock would have Martin cross the plate and Enginger would have Baldock and Daniels cross the plate to bring the final score to 14-11.
- Enginger would have his best game of his young collegiate career with four hits in five at bats with six runs batted in and one run scored.
- Martin would also have a solid game from the batters box with a three-for-five game with two runs scored.
- Baldock went two-for-five with a double, two singles, three rbi's and three runs scored.
- Nowak and Pearson would have similar stat lines by going 1-4 with one rbi, one run scored, and drawing a walk.
- Vogelgesang collected two rbi's in four plate appearances.
- Flanigan went one-for-five on the day with one run scored and an rbi.
- Sophomore pitcher Mychal Grogan threw five innings giving up six runs (five earned) and would collect one strikeout.
- First-year lefty Jackson Grimmelsman would register two innings of work allowing one unearned run with three strikeouts.
- Junior Justin Bierbaum pitched one full inning allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits and picking up the win.
- First-year Austin Dennis collected his second save of the year in one inning pitched and allowed two hits.
The baseball team will return to the Florence Y'alls stadium tomorrow (February 19) where they will once again play host to Trinity Christian for a single nine inning game at 1 p.m. ET.
