No. 2 Women's Basketball Win Overtime Thriller Over RV Georgetown

Crestview Hills, Ky. - The women's basketball program at Thomas More defeated the receiving votes Georgetown College Tigers by a score of 78-76. With the win the Saints improve to 25-3 on the year and 18-2 in Mid-South Conference play.

  • Senior guard Taylor Clos (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) got the scoring started early as the guard would spot up behind the arc and Kenzie Schwarber (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) would find her to take an early 3-0 lead.
  • Graduate forward Alexah Chrisman (Greendale, Ind./McAuley) would pull down an offensive board with just over five to go in the first quarter to extend the Saints lead to 15-10.
  • Sophomore guard Maggie Jones (Piner, Ky./Simon Kenton) would end the first quarter with a driving layup to give Thomas More a 27-15 lead after one.
  • Clos would start the second as she did the first with a three-pointer via a Chrisman assist to make the lead 30-18.
  • Sophomore forward Alex Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) would give the Saints a 34-26 lead with 1:40 to go in the second making a layup after grabbing the offensive board.
  • Junior guard Summer Secrist (Taylor Mill, Ky/Scott) would close out the first half with a pair of free throws to give Thomas More a 36-28 lead heading into the locker room.

  • Schwarber made the first two points of the half for the Saints with a pair of free throws to give a lead of 38-30.
  • Secrist would sink a pair of free throws to make the score 50-42 with 3:52 to go in the third quarter.
  • Clos closed out the third two free throws to bring the score to 52-48.
  • Junior guard Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) would score a layup with 6:44 left in regulation.
  • Sophomore guard Rachel Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) helped the Saints retake the lead with 5:44 to go.
  • Schwarber would sink a clutch free throw to bring the score to 65-65 to send it the game to over time.

  • Chrisman would tie the game up at 67 with a jump shot with 4:33 to go.
  • Junior guard Emily Simon (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) hit two crucial free throws with 1:33 to go to tie the game at 76-76.
  • Chrisman would hit the biggest shot of the game to give Thomas More the game winner at 78-76.

  • Clos had a team high 16 points.
  • Secrist, junior guard Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner), and Chrisman all had 10 points.
  • Chrisman collected four blocks and eight rebounds in the effort.

Women's basketball will return to the court on Saturday, February 19 when they travel to Campbellsville, Kentucky to take on Campbellsville University for the Mid-South Conference Championship, opening tip is set for 2 p.m. ET.
