#1 Women's Basketball Close Out 2022 with Big Victory of WVU Tech

(MONTGOMERY, West Virginia)-#1 Thomas More University women's basketball team defeated WVU Tech on Saturday afternoon (December 30), 122-61. The Saints overall record improves to 15-0.

• Senior Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) drained a 3-point basket to start the game off for the Saints with 19:43 on the clock (3-0) in the first quarter.
• With 3:17 left in the first quarter, junior Maggie Jones (Piner, Ky./Simon Kenton) knocked in a 3-point shot to close out the Saints 13-0 run over the Golden Bears (23-7).
• Junior Kelly Brenner (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) made a jump shot for the Saints final basket of the quarter and give the team a 32-13 lead going into the second quarter.
• Junior Mattison Vickers (Covington, Ky./Simon Kenton) kicked off the Saints 7-0 run over the Golden Bears with a layup to give them a 21 point lead with 8:19 to play in the half (34-13).
• First year Rylee Turner (Newport, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) made a 3-point basket with 4:22 to play in the first half to help extend the Saints lead to 45-19.
• Kelly Brenner drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer to close out the scoring for the Saints in the first half and give the team a 58-26 lead going into the locker room at the half.
• Courtney Hurst led the Saints in the first half with 12 points and had two rebounds and an assist.
• Kelly Brenner followed with 9 points, three assists, and one rebound.
• Rylee Turner led the Saints defensively, bringing down four rebounds and had seven points.
• Senior Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) tallied four assists to lead the team and had three rebounds and two points.
• Senior Emily Simon (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) recorded eight points, two rebounds, and one assist in the first half.
• Maggie Jones had eight points and two rebounds.
• Mattison Vickers also put up eight points and brought down three rebounds.
• The Saints were 52.3% (23-44) from the field, 36.8% (7-19) from the 3-point line, and 83.3% (5-6) from the free throw line in the first half.

• Courtney Hurst made a 3-point jump shot to start off the second half for the Saints to extend their lead to 61-26 with 9:39 on the clock.
• Emily Simon drove to the basket for a layup to give the Saints a 40 point lead with 3:48 in the third quarter (80-40).
• Junior Alex Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) made two free throws to close out the scoring for the Saints in the third quarter with 54 seconds on the clock (90-48).
• The Saints would lead 90-51 going into the final quarter.
• With 9:34 to play, senior Sammi Whiteman (Covington,Ky./Covington) would make a jump shot to kick off the scoring for the Saints in the fourth quarter (92-51).
• Junior Hailie Morgan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) made a layup to extend the Saints lead to 113-58 with 3:43 to play in the game.
• First year Jenna Lilliard (Ludlow, Ky.Ludlow) made a layup for the final basket of the game with 15 seconds to play and secure the Saints 122-61 over the Golden Bears.
• Zoie Barth recorded 12 points in the second half to lead the team and had one rebound and one assist.
• Sammi Whiteman followed with 10 points, two rebounds, and two assists.
• Hailie Morgan tallied four rebounds to lead the Saints defensively in the second half and had four points and two assists.
• The Saints were 76.5% (26-34) from the field, 53.8% (7-13) from the 3-point line, and 100% (5-5) from the free throw line in the second half.

• Courtney led the Saints with 19 points and had three rebounds, and three assists.
• Zoie Barth led the Saints with five assists and four rebounds, and had 14 points.
• Mattison Vickers recorded a career high with 15 points and had four assists and had four rebounds to lead the Saints.
• Sammi Whiteman tied her career high with 12 points and tallied four assists and brought down four rebounds to lead the Saints as well.
• Alex Smith, Rylee Turner, and Hailie Morgan also recorded four rebounds to lead the team.
• Kelly Brenner had 14 points, four assists, and one rebound.
• Six Saints were in double figures. 
• The Saints were 62.8% (49-78) from the field, 43.8% (14-32) from the 3-point line, and 90.9% (10-11) from the free throw line. 

The Saints return to action on January 5 against #3 Campbellsville (Ky.) in the Connor Convocation Center at 5:30 pm ET.
