#1 Women's Basketball Goes on the Road and Defeats #18 Georgetown

(GEORGETOWN, KY.) – The #1 Thomas More University women's basketball team continues their hot start to the season with a 75 to 63 victory over the #18 Georgetown Tigers on Saturday (November 19th) afternoon. The win moves the Saints to a 5-0 overall record and a 2-0 start to Mid-South Conference play. 

First Half
  • Junior Rachel Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio / Summit Country Day) got the Saints started with a fast break bucket off an assist from senior Emily Simon (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Davidson) to give the Saints an early 2-0 lead.
  • Emily Simon completes a pair of free throws and follows with a bucket of her own to score the next four Thomas More points and gave them a 6-5 lead.
  • After some back and fourth lead changes, senior Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky. / Conner) drains a three-pointer off an assist from junior Maggie Jones (Piner, Ky. / Simon Kenton) to give the Saints an 11-9 lead.
  • After a Georgetown 6-0 run, first year Rylee Turner (Newport, Ky. / Newport Central Catholic) ends the run with a layup to cut the Tiger lead to 2.
  • Junior Alex Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mercy McAuley) makes a layup on a fast break to tie the ball game at 16, with 2 minutes to go in the first quarter.
  • Senior Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky. / Highlands) makes a layup off an assist from Alex Smith to give the Saints the lead back at 18-16.
  • The Saints held an 18 to 16 lead after the first quarter.
  • Saints continue their scoring run with layups from Courtney Hurst and Alex Smith to push their lead to 6 while on this 9-0 run.
  • Junior Kelly Brenner (Cincinnati, Ohio / Roger Bacon) makes a layup midway through the 2nd quarter to give the Saints an eight-point lead at 26-18.

  • Emily Simon makes a jumper off an assist from Maggie Jones to give the Saints a 56-45 lead at the end of the third quarter.
  • Alex Smith got the scoring started for the Saints in the fourth quarter with a basket to give Thomas More a 58-45 lead.
