#1 Women's Basketball Goes on the Road and Defeats #18 Georgetown

(GEORGETOWN, KY.) – The #1 Thomas More University women's basketball team continues their hot start to the season with a 75 to 63 victory over the #18 Georgetown Tigers on Saturday (November 19th) afternoon. The win moves the Saints to a 5-0 overall record and a 2-0 start to Mid-South Conference play. 

• Junior Rachel Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio / Summit Country Day) got the Saints started with a fast break bucket off an assist from senior Emily Simon (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Davidson) to give the Saints an early 2-0 lead.
• Emily Simon completes a pair of free throws and follows with a bucket of her own to score the next four Thomas More points and gave them a 6-5 lead.
• After some back and fourth lead changes, senior Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky. / Conner) drains a three-pointer off an assist from junior Maggie Jones (Piner, Ky. / Simon Kenton) to give the Saints an 11-9 lead.
• After a Georgetown 6-0 run, first year Rylee Turner (Newport, Ky. / Newport Central Catholic) ends the run with a layup to cut the Tiger lead to 2.
• Junior Alex Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mercy McAuley) makes a layup on a fast break to tie the ball game at 16, with 2 minutes to go in the first quarter.
• Senior Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky. / Highlands) makes a layup off an assist from Alex Smith to give the Saints the lead back at 18-16.
• The Saints held an 18 to 16 lead after the first quarter.
• Saints continue their scoring run with layups from Courtney Hurst and Alex Smith to push their lead to 6 while on this 9-0 run.
• Junior Kelly Brenner (Cincinnati, Ohio / Roger Bacon) makes a layup midway through the 2nd quarter to give the Saints an eight-point lead at 26-18.
• Zoie Barth scored the next five Saint points and pushed the lead to ten, 31-21.
• After going on a run and cutting the Saints lead down to 4, Maggie Jones scores on a fast break off an Alex Smith assist to give the Saints a 35-29 lead at the half.
• The Saints shot 14 for 24 from the field in the first half, and 1 for 6 from beyond the three-point line.
• The Saints were 6 for 8 from the free throw line in the half.
• Alex Smith had 8 points at the half, to go along with 2 rebounds and 2 assists.
• Zoie Barth had 7 points along with 2 rebounds and 2 assists

• Georgetown came out and took a one-point lead early in the half, and Courtney Hurst answers with a jumper to give the Saints a 37-36 lead.
• The Saints go on a run with baskets from Rylee Turner, Courtney Hurst, and Rachel Martin hits a three pointer to give the Saints a 44-36 lead.
• Courtney Hurst and Rachel Martin each score a basket to push the Saints lead to 12, 52-40 with 4 minutes to go in the third quarter.
• Emily Simon makes a jumper off an assist from Maggie Jones to give the Saints a 56-45 lead at the end of the third quarter.
• Alex Smith got the scoring started for the Saints in the fourth quarter with a basket to give Thomas More a 58-45 lead.
• Kelly Brenner gives the Saints their largest lead of the day with 8 minutes to go in the third.
• Courtney Hurst hits a three pointer off an assist from Zoie Barth to make it 63-49.
• Georgetown cut the lead to 9 right before Kelly Brenner makes a pair of free throws to give the Saints a 69 to 58 lead.
• With just under 2 minutes to go, Alex Smith makes a layup to give Thomas More 73 to 59 lead.
• Saints go on to win 75 to 63.
• The Saints shot 14 for 33 in the second half from the field, and 2 for 7 from the three point line.
• The Saints went 10 for 12 from the free throw line in the half.
• Courtney Hurst led the Saints with 18 points.
