(GEORGETOWN, Ky.)- #3 Thomas More University women's basketball team defeated RV Georgetown on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 8), 90-72 . The Saints overall record improves to 15-1 and 8-0 in the conference.
- Junior Emily Simon (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) kicked things off for the Saints driving to the rim for a layup to get the Saints on the board early (2-0).
- With 5:09 to play in the first quarter, junior Summer Secrist (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott) made a layup to extend the Saints lead to 9-6.
- Simon would close the scoring out for the quarter with a layup to make the score 25-16 going in the second quarter.
- Graduate student Alexah Chrisman (Greendale, Ind./McAuley) started the quarter off by driving to the basket for a layup with 9:39 to play in the first half (27-16).
- Sophomore transfer Alex Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) would drain a 3-point basket with 4:18 left to play to give the Saints a 12 point lead (37-25).
- Junior Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./ Highlands) would make the finals points of the half with two free throws to secure the Saints lead going into the locker room at the half (43-30).
- Barth would lead the Saints in the first half with eight points and three rebounds.
- Sophomore Rachel Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) would also lead the Saints with three rebounds.
- Smith and junior Kenzie Schwarber (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) both tallied two assists to lead the team in the first half.
- The Saints were 51.6% (16-31) from the field, 41.7% (5-12) from the 3-point line, and 66.7% (4-6) from the free throw line in the first half.
- Barth would make a jump shot to start the scoring off for the Saints in the second half with 8:35 to play in the quarter (45-32).
- With 5:17 to play in the third quarter, Secrist would make a jump to extend the Saints lead to 10 (52-42).
- Jones would drain a 3-point shot to close out the scoring for the Saints in the third quarter with a 68-52 lead.
- Sophomore Kelly Brenner (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) would make two free throws to kick off the scoring for the final quarter to give the Saints a 16 point lead (68-52).
- Simon would drive to the rim for a layup with 4:36 to play in the game to make it a lot 77-64 game.
- Martin would make a free throw to close out the scoring for the Saints and secure their 90-72 win over the Tigers.
- Barth led the Saints with eight points and three rebounds in the second half.
- Secrist also tallied eight points to lead the team and had one rebound.
- Simon recorded three rebounds in the second half to lead the Saints and had seven points.
- Martin also brought down three rebounds to lead the Saints in the second half.
- Brenner put up four points and had one assist to lead the team.
- The Saints were 52% (13-25) from the field, 33.3% (2-6) from the 3-point line, and 87.5% (21-24) from the free throw line in the second half.
- Barth led the Saints with 16 points and six rebounds.
- Martin also tallied six rebounds to lead the team.
- Secrist recorded 12 points, two rebounds, and one assist.
- Junior Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) had 12 points and three rebounds.
- Smith and Chrisman both had four assists to lead the Saints.
- Simon put up 11 points, five rebounds, and an assist.
- The Saints were 51.8% (29-56) from the field, 38.9% (7-18) from the 3-point line, and 83.3% (25-30) from the free throw line.
