(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.)-#3 Thomas More University women's basketball team defeated #1 Campbellsville on Thursday evening (Jan. 6), 72-56. The Saints overall record improves to 14-1 and 7-0 in the conference.
- Graduate student Alexah Chrisman (Greendale, Ind./McAuley) started things off for the Saints, driving to the rim for a basket to put the Saints on the board with 9:48 to play in the first quarter (2-0).
- Junior Summer Secrist (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott) made a layup to put the Saints up by four with 4:55 to play in the quarter (9-5).
- Sophomore Maggie Jones (Piner, Ky./Simon Kenton) drained a 3-pointer to end the scoring for the quarter to make it a 16-12 game with the Saints leading.
- Junior Zoie Barth (Ft. Thomas/Highlands) kicked the second quarter off with a 3-point shot to extend the Saints lead to five with 8:39 to play in the half (19-14).
- With 3:11 to play in the half, Chrisman would go up for a layup to put the Saints within two (25-27).
- Barth would make a last second layup to tie the game up going into the locker room at the half (29-29).
- Barth led the scoring for the Saints with 10 points and had three rebounds and an assist in the first half.
- Chrisman would follow with eight points and would lead the team defensively with five rebounds.
- Sophomore transfer Alex Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) also tallied five rebounds to lead to team.
- Senior Taylor Clos (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) and junior Emily Simon (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) would both lead the Saints with two assists in the first half.
- The Saints were 42.9% (12-28) from the field, 33.3% (3-9) from the 3-point line, and 100% (2-2) from the free throw line in the first half.
- Junior Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) swished a three to start the scoring off for the Saints in the second half (32-29).
- Clos would make a 3-point jump shot to extend the Saints lead to 37-34) with 5:33 to play in the third quarter.
- Jones would close out the scoring for the Saints in the third quarter with two free throws to put the Saints up by 15.
- With 8:45 to play in the game, Jones would drain a 3-pointer to kick off the scoring for the Saints in the final quarter of the game (56-14).
- Secrist would drive to the rim for a basket and one with 7:36 to play in the game to extend the Saints lead to 19 (61-42).
- Brenner would secure the Saints big victory over the Tigers making two free throws (72-16) to end the game.
- Brenner would lead the Saints in the second half with 10 points and had one assist.
- Jones would follow with seven points and two rebounds.
- Smith would lead the team defensively with four rebounds.
- Chrisman would follow behind with four rebounds, five points, and two assists.
- Secrist recorded three assists in the second half to lead the Saints in the second half and had five points and one rebound.
- The Saints were 54.2% (13-24) from the field, 50% (6-12) from the 3-point line, and 90% (9-10) from the free throw line in the second half.
- Barth the Saints with 16 points and had three rebounds and three assists.
- Brenner would follow with 12 points and one assist.
- Jones tallied 10 points, two rebounds, and an assist.
- Smith would lead the Saints with nine rebounds and tallied four points and two assists.
- Chrisman would follow with eight rebounds, 13 points, and two assists.
