Box Score 2 (Crestview Hills, Ky.) – The baseball program at Thomas More University earned a day one sweep over Martin Methodist by scores of 18-2 and 4-0. The Saints improve to 5-9 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Game 1: 18-2, 7 innings
- Martin Methodist jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning.
- Thomas More got on the board after Jacob Caruso hit a ball to deep center scoring Bailey Martin and Derek Atwood, giving the TMU a 2-1 lead after three.
- The RedHawks homered in the top of the 4th to tie the game at 2-2 heading into the bottom of the 4th.
- The Saints would score eight runs in the bottom of the 4th as Tyler Flick, Casey Nowak, Brett Benzinger, Brady Reynolds, Bailey Martin, Gavin Pearson, Derek Atwood, and Cooper Daniels would all cross the plate.
- Thomas More would add another eight runs in the 5th, Reynolds would come back around and score twice in the inning, making the score 18-2 TMU.
- Reynolds was 2-3 at the plate knocking in three rbi's, scoring three runs, and drawing a walk.
- Atwood went 2-4 at the plate gaining two rbi's, scoring two runs, and forcing a walk.
- Pearson was 1-5 with two rbi's and two runs scored.
- Caruso was 1-5 at the plate with three rbi's.
- First-year Mychal Grogan pitched seven innings allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out six.
Game 2: 4-0, 7 innings
- Atwood would get things started early for the Saints as he knocked in Martin to score the games opening run in the bottom of the 1st, making the score 1-0 TMU.
- Martin would once again come around to score off of Atwoods ground ball, making the score 2-0 in the bottom of the 3rd.
- Benzinger hit a double to the right field fence that scored both Flick and Nowak making the final score at 4-0.
- Atwood batted 1-3 while driving in two runs.
- Benzinger went 1-3 with two rbi's.
- Martin was 1-4 and crossed home plate two times.
- Senior left hander Mitchell Morris threw a seven inning complete game only allowing no runs, three hits, and two walks, while striking out six batters.
Baseball will return to the field tomorrow (March 6) at 1 p.m. ET, where they will look to complete the three game sweep over Martin Methodist.
