Box Score 2 (JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.) – The Thomas More University baseball team went 2-0 today (Friday, February 5, 2021) during the second day of the Clash of the Conferences at TVA Credit Union Ballpark in Johnson City, Tennessee. The Saints fell 13-7 to Milligan University and 8-7 to the University of Rio Grande.
MILLIGAN GAME
- Milligan scored seven in the third and six in the fifth.
- Thomas More plated two in the second, three in the fifth and two in the sixth.
- Junior designated hitter Bailey Martin (Alexandria, Ky./Simon Kenton) went two-for-three with two runs-batted-in and a run scored.
- Sophomore catcher Jacob Caruso (Rootstown, Ohio/Rootstown) was one-for-four with a double and two RBI.
- Junior right fielder Aiden Reverman (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) was one-for-three with a double, a run scored and a RBI.
- Sophomore pitcher Hunter Nantz (London, Ky./North Laurel) suffered the loss he pitched two and a third innings and gave up seven runs (four earned) on six hits, while striking out two.
RIO GRANDE GAME
- Thomas More scored three in the first, one in the second, two in the third and one in the seventh.
- Rio Grande had one in the first, three in the third, one in the fifth and three in the sixth.
- First-year Brady Baldock (Burlington, Ky./St. Henry) was three-for-four with a double, a triple and two runs scored.
- Martin was three-for-four with a run scored.
- Junior Brett Benzinger (Taylor Mill, Ky./New Richmond) was two-for-four with two runs scored.
- First-year pitcher Mason Berger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) earned a no decision as he pitched four innings giving up four runs (all earned) on four strikeouts.
- Junior pitcher Ty Grimes (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) suffered the loss as he pitched two innings giving up four runs (one earned) on one strikeout.
- The Saints are scheduled return to action on Friday, February 12 to play Lawrence Tech at 1 p.m. and Northwestern Ohio at 4 p.m. at UC Health Stadium in Florence, Kentucky.
