(Crestview Hills, Ky.) – The women's basketball at Thomas More knocked off the number one team in the country by a score of 65-55. With the win TMU improves to 19-1 overall and 14-1 in conference play.
Sophomore Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) got the game started with a three-pointer to give the Lady Saints a 3-0 lead.
First-year Maggie Jones (Piner, Ky./Simon Kenton) made a layup off a feed from Sophomore Summer Secrist (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott) to give Thomas More a 20-9 lead after quarter one.
Sophomore Kenzie Schwarber (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) would hit two free throws to begin the second to push TMU's lead to its largest at 13.
The Lady Saints trailed 26-24 at the half.
Sophomore Emily Simon (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) would drive in the lane and make a shot from the block to bring the game back within 3 with 8:20 remaining in the third quarter.
Graduate student Alexah Chrisman (Greendale, Ind./McAuley) made a post move and made a hook shot to help regain the lead for the Lady Saints at 40-36 with 55 seconds left in the third.
Sophomore Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) pushed the lead back to 5 with a layup with 8:50 remaining in the game.
Junior Taylor Clos (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) would ice the game with three free throws bringing the final score to 65-55.
Thomas More had three double-digit scorers, Barth (11), Clos (11), and Chrisman (10).
Barth and Secrist led the team in rebounding with 7 and 6 respectively.
Schwarber led the team in steals with 3.
Thomas More outrebounded Campbellsville 33-27.
Women's basketball returns on Thursday, February 4, at 5:30 p.m. where they will take on the receiving votes Cumberlands Patriots in the Connor Convocation Center.
